There is that great scene in "Jerry McGuire" where Jerry is driving away from thinking he signed Cush, incredibly pumped up and trying to sing along w/ songs on the radio. He tries very unsuccessfully to sing along to a really disjointed Zeppelin tune before changing channels to "Free Fallin'" and just locks in right away: "Now I'm freeeeeeeee, free falliin'...."

I mean, if you haven't had a drunk full-throated take on that one, you really haven't lived....

its one of those songs that the Free fallin part can mean so much personally to the belter



You can be enjoying just free falling through life


You can be sad and feelin like you are about to lose it all

It's shame. Perhaps he might have lived longer had he not abused cocaine and heroin for so long.

much more likely because he smoked cigarettes up to 2015..deadly stuff.
heroin is not a cardiac factor..cocaine is,but he didn't do much coke -he was strung out on heroin in the 1990's

I read his autobiography..

Petty swears he’s abstained from most of the traditional drink and drug excesses of many of his peers. Cocaine? Sure, a few times, but “the first thing it does is freeze your vocal cords,” he explains to Rolling Stone. Alcohol? “I didn’t like the taste or the buzz,” he tells Men’s Journal, “and I can’t stand being around drunks.” So what’s left? “I’m mostly just a reefer guy.” Oh, and of course, there’s the dreaded cigarettes. “I’m an addict, man. I’m a sick f—. But I don’t understand why I can’t light up in a bar or park. I think that’s yuppie s—.”

“I hate MP3s,” Petty told USA Today. “You hear exactly 5% of the record I made. The CD is not as good as it can be, but it’s 100 times better than an MP3. The good news is vinyl is coming back.” Oh, and don’t get him started on how great free streaming music is, like Q Radio did: “There are artists far less fortunate than me that make their living (making music), and I think it’s a slap in the face to them to think that you can take their work for free.”

yes. I wuz his dealer.
he'd call up and order "boy" or "girl". I kept track and invoiced him for services once a month
