China May Take Over North Korea, Russia as Greatest Threat to U.S., Top General Warns

China is set to become the next greatest national security threat to the U.S., according to this country's highest-ranking general.

At his hearing Tuesday for reappointment to chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Marine General Joseph Dunford told the Senate Armed Services Committee that China would surpass North Korea and Russia as the leading challenge to U.S. national security in less than a decade. He said that North Korea had already surpassed Russia and China "in terms of the sense of urgency" since his 2015 assessment but that China would soon take over due to "demographics and the economic situation."

"I think China probably poses the greatest threat to our nation by about 2025," Dunford said, responding to a question by Hawaii Senator Mazie Hirono during the hearing.

"China is focused on limiting our ability to project power and weakening our alliances in the Pacific," he later added, arguing that China's widespread defense reforms had the “potential to degrade core U.S. military technological advantages.”

China has amassed the world's largest standing army, and Chinese President Xi Jinping has implemented a large-scale reorganization of his country's armed forces in order to modernize and streamline their warfighting capabilities. While the U.S. and China are the world's two largest economies and are each other's leading trade partners, the two often find themselves on different sides of economic and foreign policy disputes.

Under President Barack Obama, the U.S. stepped up its attempts to block Chinese dominance of the Asia-Pacific, and President Donald Trump has long been a critic of China both politically and economically.
China has made vast territorial claims disputed by surrounding nations in the South China Sea, where the U.S. accuses China of building artificial, militarized islands to back its claims, and the East China Sea.

I guess some people are just easily duped.

Generals are in the business of promoting the Pentagon's interests. And that means inflating the Pentagon budget as much as possible.

How do they do this? Life experience has taught me they are constantly exaggerating the gravity of "threats". The threat of the Soviet Union was always over hyped. It turned out the Red Army couldn't even defeat a few thousand afghan tribesmen.

The threat from Iraq was obviously overhyped, exaggerated, and over stated. I for one saw through that charade from the beginning. Others on this forum were easily duped!

It all comes down to money, chap. A pentagon general has a vested interest in hyping threats. China is a geopolitical competitor of ours. But where we have mutual interests, cooperation is always what adult should strive for.

Pentagon Generals resorting to lexicon of "threats" doesn't fool me. It is the lexicon of PNAC and the NeoCons. I've seen this movie before, and I know what their game is.

You however, are apparently easily duped!

what does this pablum supposed to mean?

He's speaking of geo-political threats now and in the future by the capabilities and strategic outlook of foes.
It's a comparative threat assessment on a macrolevel

Trump doesn't get it, cuck cunt.
Trump has all his merchandise manufactured in China.
A decent president would lead by example, bringing all those products back to the US for manufacturing.

Instead, President Trump secured 38 licenses from the Chinese government.

You are a dirty fucking liar and an ignorant shitstain.

he's a successful business man-why does he need to pull Chinese production?
Many times you can't compete unless you use foreign labor -is that the case here?
do you know or not?

more importantly then few trinkets -look at th US-China trade deal negotiated by the Trump adm

US and China sign trade agreement
12 May 2017

The criticism that foreign investors usually have of doing business with China is that typically it is China that benefits far more than the foreign business partner. That has been the rallying cry of President Trump on the campaign trail, and he has promised to get China to play by the rules.

This agreement looks set to at least give the impression that he is doing that. It certainly benefits the US by giving American financial services and American beef exporters more access to China's growing middle classes.

But China isn't one to give away something for nothing. In return, Beijing gets an important reshaping of its global image from the US.

No longer do you hear the words "currency manipulator" or "unfair trade partner" from Trump's lips. Instead, the US in a statement recognised the importance of China's One Belt and One Road initiatives, and even says it will send representatives to attend the summit - something previous administrations have thus far eschewed. China also gets to sell its cooked poultry products to the US - a market it has been keen to tap too.

of course the OP is about geo-political threats, not Trump's trinkets

i was saying before china is the only legitimate threat to US hegemony.
Russia is a threat, but Russia is still oriented towards Europe and can be dealt with-
at least before the Deep State and Congress decided to use Russiaphobia instead of diplomacy

TPP, isolated China economically in the region, now, even Australia has entered into separate trade agreements with China, they are taking over America's leadership in the area

why shouldn't Australia trade with China? Why shouldn't China lead it's own region?
they are an economic and military superpower.

Of course they are hegemonists -and here we need to check them, but the TPP was a terrible flawed treaty that was a sop to globalists, not in the economic interest of the US.

even Hilary got that after awhile!

Wrong.
Hillary never got it.
The only thing she got was that she couldn't get elected while supporting it.

russia doesnt have the economy to be a threat.

russia doesnt have the economy to be a threat.
sure. that's why they have the 2nd largest military ( for the time being) .
China is going to overtake them..

The thing about Putin is he would be willing to deal since his military saps his economy.
Trump understood this. But the Deep State and Congress wrecked that possibility

Russia' economy is smaller than California, retard and their army is 5th in world with less soldiers than NK.

That doesn't mean she stopped supporting it , moron, just not publicly.
Damn you are fucking stupid.
ROFL...
Now you are a mind reader?
she's a worthless globalist hawk, but you have to at least listen to what she says- even if she is a serial liar.
