A year ago, Luis Alberto Mendez was an able-bodied immigrant from Mexico who worked as a carpenter. He had suffered from depression, but his lawyer said he had gotten the symptoms under control with medication.

He was also undocumented.

Today, Mendez is a quadriplegic who is confined to his brother’s home in San Jose. He needs constant care and has no money.

He blames Sacramento County and the U.S. government, and he’s suing them both.

Mendez, 37, is a native of Mexico who does not dispute that he was in the United States illegally in 2016. When agents detained him, he willingly signed an order agreeing to immediate deportation, his lawyer said. If the government had just sent him home then, he contends, he would not be paralyzed.

Instead, he was taken to the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center in Elk Grove. There, his lawsuit claims, jailers ignored his pleas for access to medical care. He eventually attempted to kill himself by jumping off a second-story balcony on the prison grounds, his lawyer said.

The fall didn’t kill him, but it left him a quadriplegic in need of a lifetime of medical care. His lawsuit accuses the U.S. government and Sacramento County of negligence, Fresno attorney Douglas Gordon said Friday.

I live about 5 miles from that correctional facility & this is the first I have heard of it.......

What would you like to see happen to him??

Don't give a shit as long as he gets nothing. HIS actions of coming here illegally are what started the process to get to the end result. Without that initial decision, none of it happens. The blame is on him and him alone.

I told you. Send him back to mexico and let them take care of him for life. That is obviously the correct thing for america to do. This criminal will cost america millions of dollars if we let him stay,

His initial choice to come here illegally started the process that produced this result. Since it's his fault for making that choice, it's his responsibility for those result.

He was not an "immigrant" he was an "illegal immigrant". Notice how the article used the term "undocumented"...which is an oxymoron derived from logic or reason with the expectation that the readers are morons. If he was undocumented just how was the article written with all the personal detail involved? He most certainly was DOCUMENTED somewhere such as the revealed fact that he was working as a carpenter (that process must have involved the SSA, the IRS and State revenue tax departments etc. If the current laws were enforced by the Executive Branch.

The accident is secondary (as it was the result of a free will action)....its a left wing tear jerker article invoked in order to solicit "emotion" as the media plays upon the emotions of the weak and those incapable of dealing with the reality that surrounds them.

Being a Latin National.....with Catholicism being the CORE and fundamental religion the victim of such uncontrollable circumstances should realize that "Suicide" is one of the greatest sins a person can commit.

Its just another left wing propaganda piece. :palm: There are things that are beyond the realm of man to control in the left wing quest for "social justice", accidents, natural disasters, and poverty due to such circumstances to include the free will choices made that result in a lifetime of poverty. As the Christ informed us, "..you will always have the poor among you." -- John 12:8 ALWAYS is forever, until the end.

Clearly he was a "victim" of the evil Trump Administration who "targeted" this poor Mexican who just wanted to go home and was detained in spite of the best efforts of the moral Obama administration who made an executive edict (monarch like) that re-defined an act of legislation..i.e., a law that is to be enforced by the executive branch not changed and made this Mexican National guilty of only one thing, a simple misdemeanor. Oh the humanity. The US government should settle with this person and give he and his family the restitution deserved.

At best this article is the perfect example of documenting REALITY, everyone must live or die with the free will choices they make in the journey along the path of this realm of reality called LIFE. There is no guarantee of fair play, equality or empathy from those who profess empathy as a sham.... life is a river, whether we go with the current or fight against it is entirely up to the person living it. You can deal with reality, or you can attempt to hide from it in the la la land that exists between your ears.

That my friend is up to a court to determine, not you!

Laugh My Proverbial Ass Off. Of course the courts must determine truth....not the facts in evidence. A good belly laugh is always good for the soul. ;) And the COURTS decided that Mr. Trump did not have the authority to regulate immigration....didn't they? But were Bitch Slapped into reality. Justice is blindfolded for a reason, justice is always served by the evidence not emotion. What? Do the courts control the conditions that are common to man, accidents, natural disasters, and free will choices that result in a clear case of idiocy? As presented previously...the left live between their ears divorced from reality.

You must be one of those "undocumented" individuals simply seeking "social justice".

The truth is not always the way you portray events, honey bunch.

The truth here is the piece of shit illegal made a choice to come here illegally. Anything that happens after that is his responsibility. Without that choice, the results don't occur.

Thanks for handing down your opinion, your honor.

And thank you for the demonstration of "how to wear a sock". :whoa: But then again that thing called the 1st amendment is indeed a hell'of a thing....no? Even those who piss in your cornflakes are allowed to speak freely.

When you incarcerate someone, you accept the responsibility for proper care. Gotta feed them, clothe them, house them, etc. Looks like they fucked up by ignoring his medical needs.
