The Force is With Me
Without question, Trump has damaged the Republican Party in ways that no democrat could ever accomplish. Even republicans can't figure him out, what his motivations are .. and, he's been a democrat for most of his life.
Is Donald Trump an undercover Democrat?
It is impossible to make sense of anything that has happened in the White House during the past seven months. Even if you were to come up with a reasonable explanation for Donald Trump's bizarre behavior, it most certainly would be wrong.
But I'm going to give it a shot anyway. Trump is a Democrat working undercover.
He's not just any Dem, though. He's a bitterly scheming, conniving one who will go to any lengths, even sacrificing his own dignity, to bring the Republican establishment down.
Pay no attention to that June tweet in which he called Democrats "obstructionists." Ignore that picture he tweeted in March of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer with Russian President Vladimir Putin from 2003, calling the Democrat a "total hypocrite" and demanding an investigation.
Those were just distractions. Trump's real target is the Republican Party. House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell are at the top of his hit list. And they have plenty of reasons to be scared.
Trump's decision to toss the fate of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals into Ryan and McConnell's laps was a well-orchestrated maneuver to pull the curtain back on establishment Republicans and expose their hypocrisy.
Trump may be new to Washington, but he isn't naïve enough to think that Congressional leaders can overcome all the dysfunction among Republican lawmakers and come up with DACA legislation that could get enough votes to pass.
So-called Dreamers are merely sacrificial lambs in Trump's larger mission to push Latinos, African-Americans, Jews and compassionate white people in general away from the Republican Party for good.
This, perhaps, was Trump's most brilliant stunt of all. Though young people's lives hang in the balance, he is forcing Ryan and McConnell to take on yet another insurmountable obstacle when their plates already are full.
It wasn't that long ago that Trump threatened to shut down the government if Ryan and McConnell didn't find a way to pay for his border wall. That would be a political disaster for Republicans, one that would follow them into the midterm elections.
Reportedly, the Republican leadership was so worried about the backlash from a government shutdown that they considered cutting nearly $1 billion from FEMA's disaster relief fund.
Every now and then, Trump does make a jab at the party he ostensibly represents, urging them to get in line with his supposedly conservative goals. But don't be fooled by that. It's just to throw suspicious Republicans off his scent.
While he's out there criticizing McConnell on Twitter for failing on health care reform, he's winking at Democrats and reassuring them that he's got their backs.
Now, some of you might wonder if former President Barack Obama is in on the plot. It certainly seems clear that he's the one who will come away from this Trump presidency looking like the best thing that ever happened to America. And those "I miss 44" T-shirts are pretty popular right now.
Though he might not have expected to end up in the White House, Trump has decided to make good use of his time there. Every week, he gives us a fresh drama that makes Republicans want to run someplace and hide.
Quite often, that's exactly what they do. Because they know they're the ones who cooked up this monster from a recipe that took the past eight years to perfect.
Perhaps my thesis is wrong after all. Trump isn't an undercover Democrat.
He isn't a member of any party at all, except the party of one — Donald Trump.
