Sanctions doubts grow as North Korea warns of 'gift packages' for U.S.

Han Tae Song, ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, confirmed that North Korea, officially known as the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), had successfully conducted its sixth and largest nuclear bomb test on Sunday.

”The recent self-defense measures by my country, DPRK, are a

gift package addressed to none other than the U.S.
,” Han told a disarmament conference.

“The U.S. will receive more ‘gift packages’ from my country as long as its relies on reckless provocations and futile attempts to put pressure on the DPRK,” he added without elaborating.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley on Monday accused North Korean leader Kim Jong Un of “begging for war” with a series of nuclear bomb and missile tests. She urged the 15-member Security Council to impose the “strongest possible” sanctions to deter him and shut down his trading partners.

But Russia’s U.N. Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia said on Tuesday that a U.S. bid for the Security Council to vote on Sept. 11 on new sanctions is “a little premature.” Russia is a permanent member of the Security Council and has veto power.

“I don’t think we’ll be able to rush it so fast,” Nebenzia told reporters. Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier on Tuesday described more sanctions as a “road to nowhere.”

Wall Street stocks fell on Tuesday as U.S. trading reopened for the first time since the North Korean nuclear bomb test, and the U.S. dollar and Treasury yields fell. “It’s a more risk-averse picture,” said Vassili Serebriakov, FX strategist at Credit Agricole in New York. “North Korea accounts for most of it.”

What did you think of Haley's statement that they want war?

once they are an existential threat- military option becomes viable

A ridiculous answer that ignores the question of killing millions of people.

Trump's entire clown show on North Korea has been a disaster and monumental failure of leadership.

Even with NK testing a hydrogen bomb, the world rejects Trump's leadership.

not "millions of people"
US would not use nukes. Stealth should be able to take most out. The artillery near Seoul is the biggest danger.

It would be a bloodbath, but not an armageddon.

Trump didn't get us here -Obama's "strategic patience" was a major stall that did nothing,
and NK made major gains under Obama.

Funny how you don't/wont see that.

How many dead people are acceptable in the bizarro world that you exist in? 500,000?

You don't have a clue how many dead people would be the result of the ignorance that you support.

Trump has brought us to this moment with his bellicose blustering ignorance .. exactly the reason why the world rejects him and his call to get harsher with NK.

In fact, Kim is winning and has already dealt a serious blow to US credibility. The world no longer stands behind American leadership and all Trump's pointless schoolboy bluster has failed miserably.

There are no military solutions for NK. Planet earth knows that even if though you don't.

the worlds hasn't "rejected: the US on North Korea. South Korea and Japan warn against first strike as does China-
but the UN keeps voting for more sanctions.

There is still time, but NK's advances in all phases of tech are causing Trump and administration to warn we are not going to accept an existential threat, no matter what Susan Rice and Susan Powers say.
They can be all bellicose about destroying Libya, but silent acquiesent on an existential threat to the USA

Russia says sanctions are pointless - bu the UN still lines up behind us on this-wherever do you get this idea the world isn't wiht us on this??

As to the casualties..yes you might get 100K ( im no expert - read different sources and this seems to be about it)
but id you have ICBMs proven with warheads and re-entry, etc that has to be looked at.

I've said a million times "play it out" -don't jump the gun, but be realistic about what might happen

From Fox News

A war with North Korea would be hell -- And the aftermath even worse

8 million dead - what nuclear war with North Korea could look like
http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2017...ear-war-with-north-korea-could-look-like.html

Nobody knows how a war with NK will turn .. including and especially you.

NK IS a nuclear power AND the history clearly demonstrates they have nukes for defensive purposes.
of course they have nukes as part of their strategic arsenal..Much like Russia has tactical battlefield nukes to make up for force inferiority

I was looking at the actual placement of NK's artillery - and a good part won't reach Seoul.
Again not to down play shelling on Seoul; but these numbers of 550k/millions assume a nuclear war.

You can be sure we have plans to be able to take out their defenses..but again this doesn't mean we just start a war.
Neither does it mean we simply accept a NK with ICBM weapons that can strike the US.
lil Kim cannot be assumed to be a rational actor-his extreme bellicosity belies any indication of a thoughtful foe

Sadly you seem to dismiss hundreds of thousands of lives as if they were nothing..........

You continue to blame Obama when it isn't all on him by any stretch........

Needlessly provocative... Hopefully she isn't stooping to the childish level of either so called leader..
It gave me a chill. I have lived through this fear before, hopefully, this is just another scary close call.

:hand: :hand: Getting out played by a kid..........

Very sad if hundreds of thousands are killed as a result........
