The difference is no one was committing violence on account of that issue. But what this teacher said to the student with the MAGA shirt dovetails with the Antifa issue. Antifa really thinks Trump supporters are Nazis, so they feel justified in bashing their heads.
It explains why their numbers are growing.

I had a similar experience, many - many years ago.
Back in 1992, when Clinton ran against Bush, one of my Grandkids told me something that a Teacher had said in class.
She told the entire Elementary class that while Bush was campaigning in Texas, an ambulance was made to stop; because of the Bush motorcade.
This supposed ambulance was said to have been transporting a heart attack patient to a hospital and since it couldn't get through the motorcade, the patient died.
The next morning; I was at the school and requested to speak to the Principal.
I then had my Grandson repeat, what he had told me, to the Principal.
I told the Principal that my Grandson had no need to be here, for the rest of the conversation, and I sent him onto his class.
I then requested that the Teacher be asked to come to his office, so this could be discussed.
When the Teacher arrived and was told why I was there, she immediately went into defense mode and tried to say she was trying to teach the children empathy.
I asked where this story had come from and she said her husband had told he had heard about it, on the news.
When I asked her if she had bothered to investigate as to the veracity of the "story", she said no.
She was then informed that I had investigated it and there were no internet news or articles that supported this.
At this point, she became very quiet and looked like a cat caught eating a canary.
At this point, I was done talking her and addressed the Principal.
I told him that if ever heard another thing that even came close to this, being said to kids; that not only was I going to go to the District Office, but would also seek the advice of a lawyer.
I looked right back at the Teacher, at this point, and said very clearly; that if my Grandson received any consequence for telling me or I even thought something came of this, that I would be suing her.
Looked back at the Principal, told him that the ball was now in his court and what he decided to do, was up to him.
I then walked out.
Never heard another word about anything similar.

There was really no incident to begin with. Just an overreacting ahole. Nothing happened with to the teacher. Not even a stern lecture. Just laughing at the dickhead.
