Powerful curent from south now pushing Irma north coming in over western edge of the Everglades around 2am;
sustained winds 100mph>;
Cape Coral by 11am;
sustained winds 100mph>;
Sarasota by 2pm;
sustained winds around 90mph>;
Tampa by 5pm;
sustained winds around 80mph>;
Orlando by 8pm;
sustained winds around 70mph>;
north to Ocala by 11pm;
sustained winds around 50mph>
all that land has thankfully taken a toll on the strength.
Tues.9/12
just above Gainesville by 2am;
sustained winds around 40mph>;
crosses over state line between Valdosta, GA and east coast by 5am;
sustained winds around 30mph>;
Continues up through Macon and Atlanta as a weakened storm.
Other observations...........
Irma is typically large spreading out across entire state of FL and all the higher mph readings are of course out over the Gulf and the Atlantic. The land mass weakens it substantially. For all those mph readings, figure all the wind gusts at 20>30mph more at any given time.
All of of this can possibly change again and the most accurate readings still won't be for another couple days. Will keep you posted.
I'm in a rural area of Ocala. Our electricity goes out at the drop of a hat anyway...hundreds of huge oak trees with limbs falling on wires and such all over the place. But, I've got my pbj, crackers, kippers and smoked oysters for treats if it goes out for a day or so.
