You and your ilk don't get to claim the mantle of 'normals'. It's not a popular movement. You like poll numbers right? The national polls show 60% in support of leaving them.
The 18-21 August poll found that 54% of adults said Confederate monuments “should remain in all public spaces”, while 27% said they “should be removed from all public spaces”. Another 19% said they “don’t know”.

27% is marginal support for the Monument Crusaders. The only way to account for the discrepancy is to surmise that local officials fear the prospect of leftist thugs showing up in their towns and either tearing the statues down, or worse, drawing Nazis out from under the rocks and having a repeat of Charlottesville.
Nobody wants to deal with all that, so they take them down. You Crusaders may be getting their way, but it's not the way you win national elections.
With poll numbers like those, political blowback is almost certain.
