CEO Brian Gallagher said in a statement. "Responding to Hurricane Harvey requires the best of all of us – and that’s what this gift represents. United Way’s Harvey Recovery Fund will provide much-needed help for the communities along the Gulf Coast where lives have been changed forever."
Twenty-four United Way locations were directly in the path of Harvey, according to the release.
"United Way and other organizations are doing so much to help the victims of this tragedy," LDF CEO Terry Tamminen said in a statement. "We support efforts to build climate-resilient communities and protect vulnerable wildlife and ecosystems across the planet, and have supported disaster relief and victim funds in the past.
We hope others will step up and support the United Way and other organizations."

Why doesn't Mr. Moneybags just quietly write and send a check? Obviously he's unfamiliar with the lesson of the widow's mite.
Matthew 6Contemporary English Version (CEV)
Giving
6 When you do good deeds, don’t try to show off. If you do, you won’t get a reward from your Father in heaven.
[SUP]2 [/SUP]When you give to the poor, don’t blow a loud horn. That’s what show-offs do in the meeting places and on the street corners, because they are always looking for praise. I can assure you that they already have their reward.
[SUP]3 [/SUP]When you give to the poor, don’t let anyone know about it.[SUP][a][/SUP] [SUP]4 [/SUP]Then your gift will be given in secret. Your Father knows what is done in secret, and he will reward you.
He craves recognition and praise to boost his disfunctional ego.
