My plan is to put someone other than the hapless Trump in charge.

THE US has launched a devastating warning to North Korea that Washington will unleash an “overwhelming response” if Kim Jong-un blasts a nuclear attack on the West.

The statement, released by Defence Secretary Ash Carter and Secretary of State John Kerry, comes after the US and South Korea agreed to co-ordinate efforts to force the hermit state to shut-down its nuclear programme.

Pyongyang has publicly flexed its military might in recent months – conducting two nuclear tests and more than 20 missile blasts this year alone

Carter said: "The US commitment to the defence of South Korea is unwavering. This includes our commitment to provide extended deterrence, guaranteed by the full spectrum of US defence capabilities.

"Make no mistake, any attack on America or our allies will not only be defeated, but any use of nuclear weapons will be met with an overwhelming and effective response."

Kerry said the US would do "whatever it necessary".

The 72-year-old promised to implement a Terminal High Altitude Area Defence (THAAD) missile system to protect the 30,000 US troops based in South Korea.

Since the statements, North Korea has launched another missile test – which had the potential to hit countries up to 1,800 miles away.
