Anti Hate March

We were supposed to have a right wing march here in SF today that ultimately got cancelled. There were several counter protests scheduled as well.

My pastor went to the anti hate march with his wife and child. My pastor is a great guy. He's had multiple sermons against racism and on what racial reconciliation would look like.

He and his wife posted pictures from the rally and was talking about love, equality etc.

I've had dinner with my Pastor and he said he is pro-life and anti gay marriage. (I've never heard him bring up either subject in a sermon).

Is he a big hypocrite or can he hold those positions?

I heard it was a 'Prayer March' or something, and the rally leaders cancelled because they feared violence from the Antifa types.

I wouldn't say your pastor was a hypocrite for that, necessarily anyway.

Well, you'd think most reasonable and sensible people would support an anti-hate rally (obviously this doesn't apply to people posting on this board).

As to the pro-life stuff and anti-gay marriage positions, i can appreciate his viewpoints whilst fundamentally opposing them. As long as the chap isn't attemping to impose his views on anyone then i don't see any real problem. Despite the increasing polarisation evident on this board, every single tedious day, i do have some hope that, in general, people over there are still as normal as people over here. If not, then i wouldn't like to be over there in the near future.

My pastor is 30 years old, with an arm sleeve of tattoos and used to be a rapper (white dude). Was definitely a surprise the first time I saw him but great great guy.

And to your point about the polarization of this board it sadly does have correlation with real life in that people would rather scream past each other than actually converse. But it's also the nature of anonomous boards be they political, sports etc that people say things on that they wouldn't in real life

I know it's always been the way of the internets, C. Maybe it's my rose tinted glasses and all, but whenever i've gone away for a while and returned to the board, it hasn't been as bad as this. I mean the increase, and apparent acceptance, of overtly racist posters is something i don't recall in the past. There were always one or two crazies but they have certainly multiplied.

Definitely unfortunate and sad to see. And then numerous threads turn into people calling everyone racist. Sucks

Well, at least there's a few of us "normals" left.

I was just saying to my terrible mate, earlier this evening, that i've 'known' some of you lot longer than many of our terrible aquaintances and all of our current dalliances. I can't help but feel this is slightly disturbing.

Oh I think there's two primary reasons for that. The overtly racist have always been a pain in the ass. They have just become a lot better at self elimination and not getting themselves banned and secondarily under the influence of fearless leader it's ok to be openly racist.

In large measure Democrats and liberals have played into the far rights hands by assuming all they need to do is give them enough rope to hang themselves and thus fall into the identity politics trap as opposed to coming up with real solutions to the underlying economic causes of our political divide, that is, our top down economic policies and the economic redistribution from the middle and working classes to the upper classes. Democrats lame and half hearted and half assed attempts, like their ineptly named "A better deal" which really translates to "a really crappy deal but better than getting totally fucked" isn't fooling anyone or winning any hearts and minds.

What we really need to do is end this 30 year era of reverse socialism and artificially redistributing wealth to the very top and ignore liberal bottom up State run redistribution plans towards the very bottom, neither of which work and invest in middle class programs that grow the economy from the middle out, like investing heavily in middle class programs like education in modern skills based programs and in large infrastructure projects, and similar or related programs, that create middle class growth by creating more customers with more purchasing power and sustainable economic growth via a complex economic feedback loop of customers and business providers and not these artificial top down or bottom up redistribution policies that aren't working.
