Something I don't understand, and no one has yet to explain it, what is the point

After all your bait and switching, Oliver Cromwell being the best, you've still never answered the intial topic question, why do people think it is important to preserve statues honoring the Confederacy?

honoring the confederacy?

no

honoring brave men who fought in our civil war, yes

it's history

American history

much as you may want to deny it, forget it, make it go away, some hold the national memory sacred

Your right it is history, a major blunder in American History that cost millions of Americans their life, and you want to defend statues that honor those responsible for the slaughter?

I did if they are on this forum, but now I'm asking you, why do these people have statues in the first place? And why would anyone feel the need to fight to have the statues remain?

You lefties claim the entire issue of secession and the Civil War was fought over slavery. Why do we keep statues of Thomas Jefferson and George Washington up. They owned the very thing you say was the sole cause of the war.

Ironic how the same people who whine about giving losers "participation trophies" are now whining about people removing statues that commemorate the LOSING SIDE of the Civil War.

I guess their "participation trophies" are different.

They actually fought for something they believed in, a less obtrusive federal government you love going beyond it's delegated powers. That means they did more than participate. As for the participation trophy comparison, when you were a kid, they gave you trophies so you wouldn't come out to play because you sucked so much.

When it comes to kissing Obama's black ass, you don't the ultimate participation trophy. Pucker up, NL.

A grave marker's not the same as a statue honoring a person.

How is one with a reference to having fought for the Confederacy any different? It honors what the person did just like a statue.

In other words, something that does the same thing is different to you lefties.

I saw some of your lefty tough guys in Durham after they pulled down PUBLIC PROPERTY. They kicked that statue's ass didn't they. The thing is the statue can't fight back. Perhaps that's why they did it.

They fought and LOST!

But you want to keep the "participation trophies" up.

of preserving statues to Confederates? For example, what did the likes of Stonewall Jackson, who the President took time to point out today, do or accomplish that he deserves a statue?

Trump was elected to keep America stuck in the past. They elected him to halt the evolution of the American population.

They FEAR the browning of America.

Statues are their way of clinging to the past when all the heroes were white.

If only they had ovens.

The South could have fought a guerilla war to the death, but instead decided to surrender, an agreement of peace with honor to heal our country. Afterall, the war was a family affair that pitted brother against brother.

Plus, the statues are beautiful pieces of art.

So now people are fighting to preserve statues of individuals whose pride led to the slaughter of millions of Americans? Why?

Will you also back the removal of the Vietnam Memorial Wall, seeing as how it reflects the US involvement in what liberals are saying was an undeclared and illegal war?

Since the common theme seems to be that the South "lost", should we now tear down all memorials to what the left consider illegal and undeclared wars; seeing as how we "lost" several of them, according to liberals?

should we tear down martin luther king jr. statues because he was against gay people and suggested they see psychiatrists?

I have often enjoyed seeing confederate statues taken down, myself and 3d and other northerners often troll the south on this board for losing the war due to being the traitors they are.

But this isn't about really taken down statues of mean guys. It's about erasing history and being spiteful. Intention does matter a bit. Personally I don't care what happens to these statues but I do distrust the motivations of those bringing them down and I bet we will reach a day where people will want to take down jefferson because he owned slaves. I'd have more respect if the side doing this were consistent on their beliefs regarding every person in history having values out of sync with modern standards coming down, but they don't do that.
