I'm from Maryland . a so called "border state"..
I can see both sides. I can never condone slavery but I also realize there is more to it than that.

It's why I do not want history removed from it's proper place -it's better to confront our preconceptions of the past.
Like everything else we should be questioning our preconceptions,not removing them from sight.
Robert E Lee was many things -to simply call him a "racist" is a disservice to US history

In both North & South America, only residents of the USA are denoted as Americans. Residents of the CSA were Confederates, and, obviously, Civil War has always been a bad label, assigned by men who refused to accept secession as a legal act.

Nice try. It was the Southern States who started the Civil War by attacking Federal facilities. It was they who resorted to violence and they were the aggressors. The States do not have a right to unilaterally secede from our union and doing so was an act of treason.
