There is zero reason for Mueller to recuse himself. Knowing and having a working relationship with Comey is not grounds to recuse himself from the investigation. If the bar for recusal were so low, no one who worked within the investigative circle could be appointed because everyone knows everyone.
The real question is, why is Mueller disqualified now when Trump himself called Mueller in as a candidate to replace Comey?

Mueller and Comey are BFF and Comey is a key witness in the obstruction aspect. Moreover, Trump fired Mueller's BFF.

Personally I happen to believe Mueller has too much integrity and reputation at stake to find some obscure half made up collusion finding, because there is none.

What would the reason be for recusal, he was not a part of the Trump campaign.
You need to study up on prosecutorial ethics, knowing the person you are prosecuting is not a valid reason for recusal.

Mueller is the prosecutor and not Mueller's personal attorney. And Mueller will have to make a judgement between Trump and Comey at some point. If that isn't a conflict of interest there's no such thing as one.
It's almost like they're begging Trump to step in to it.
Knowing someone's character will help make such a decision. I'm sorry being friends with one of the witnesses is not a valid reason for recusal.
