Washington Post/ABC News survey - everybody sucks

New polling released Sunday confirmed how deep the hole is that President Trump finds himself in six months into his presidency, but also offered some warnings to his Democratic opponents.

A new Washington Post/ABC News survey found that Americans by 36%-58% disapprove of Trump's performance in office.

The poll does not suggest that recent headlines have worsened Trump's standing -- although some were interpreting it that way.

There's no evidence, for example, that news of Donald Trump Jr.'s meeting with a Russian lawyer and a Russian American lobbyist last year has affected the president's standing so far -- although the poll did find that by 63%-26%, Americans thought the meeting was "inappropriate."

The Post/ABC poll showed a slide in Trump's standing since the survey was last taken in April. Many other polls in the intervening weeks have documented that drop.

Most of the decline appears to have taken place in early May -- around the time that Trump fired FBI Director James B. Comey and the House passed the Republican healthcare bill, which is extremely unpopular.

But the poll offers some potential good news for the president: He has largely kept support within his own party.

While Democrats and independents disapprove of Trump's performance by large margins, those who identify themselves as Republicans continue to approve, 82%-15%.

That could give Trump a base on which to rebuild.

the president also could benefit from the Democrats' failure so far to convince the public that they stand for something other than opposition to Trump. In the Post/ABC poll, 37% said the Democrats stand for something, while 52% said they just oppose Trump.

The Democrats can't run in 2018 solely on the anti-Trump theme, but if events continue as they have, they will also have an inept GOP Congress with failures in Health Care, Tax Reform, and infrastructure to use as a theme.

Problem with Congressional elections is that a lot of them are gerrymandered, and the election is often local, might not like what the local Conhrssman does but "he's a nice guy"

That's what I've been saying. The low approval numbers are only part of the story.

That's the other part.
Whether by accident or Trump is a mad genius, that's what works for him. He did it in the campaign and he's still doing it. He brings the opposition to his playing field where he has the advantage. Dims would do better to take the high ground but they won't. That's why I call them dims.

economy is good, foreign policy is good ( and Syrian cease fire still holds)..

Take away "da Russians" (noise)
and it comes down to getting the Republican Swamp Weasles to actually do something..
which of course is damn near impossible

Not to sure about that, the shtick is getting old, and the anti-Hillary vote carried him a long way with independents in the last election, by 2020 the anti-Trump theme could fill that void

Bottom line, if the President and GOP doesn't accomplish something real by 2018 they could be in trouble. If a Democratic House was ever elected it would be big trouble for the President, the ethics investigations would make KremlinGate Double AA

most of the anti-hillary vote would be the GOP who cant stand trump. I believe they will still vote for him due to the quality of justices/judges he picks. You may not like it and its not an issue for me but they love the picks.

Trump has already expressed willingness to work with dims on fixing ACA if Repubs remain paralyzed.
As far as the anti Trump thing it all depends on what schmuck you nominate in 3 yrs. Pocahontas? hrc campaigning from her assissted living quarters? Al Sharpton? lol

That and other things he's done right.

Remember these polls?

[h=1]Clinton takes double-digit poll lead against Trump[/h]
Clinton leads Trump by 12 points among likely voters nationally — 50 to 38 percent — with Libertarian Gary Johnson at 5 percent support and Green Party nominee Jill Stein at 2 percent, according to the latest ABC News tracking poll taken after the third and final presidential debate. It’s the biggest lead Clinton has ever posted in similar polls by ABC News and the Washington Post.

“No candidate has ever come back from this far behind,” ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos declared Sunday on “This Week.”

He is in George Dumbya Bush territory now. Barely six months on the job!

Let's face it...your gluttonous, pussy grabbing, old orange clown is going to go down in history as one of the worst presidential choices ever. And you will ever have either to live with your choice to vote for him, or do what former George Dumbya Bush worshippers are doing - pretend like you never supported him!

Well, pilgrim, it's like this: the poll by fake news organizations was fatally flawed in it's methodology. They undersampled Republicans.

except failure to act on those issues have hurt the demmycrats as badly as the Republicans.......

That's exactly what Teabaggers claimed in 2012, when they were giggling that it was going to be Romney in a landslide.

I mean you actually don't remember that "the polls are skewed!" quickly became a hilarious punch line after Mittens went down in flames??

bush went down in flames because he was a pussy apologist that wanted to be friends with the other side. As this poll shows, trump supporters, the people that put him in office, are still very much on his side. The fact that democrats do not like trump is hardly a surprise. Trump still has a far higher enthusiasm factor than bush would have had. Bush was more of a middling figure that didn't inspire much passion. Trump is polarizing. Big difference.

The only thing most on the right like about Trump is that he pisses liberals off so much.

That has a real shelf life. I'll keep saying it just so I can find these posts easily: in a few years, it will be almost impossible to find someone who will admit that they voted for Trump for any other reason but to vote against Hillary.

I think a lot of people would openly admit that now. I woulda voted for Bigfoot if that was the only choice I had. Anybody But Clinton.

I think that was already the case with at least 50% of Trump voters, though...
