Often wondered where some of the conservatives here got their perception from,

"The John Birch Society Is Back"

"This is what the 21st-century John Birch Society looks like. Gone is the organization’s past obsession with ending the supposed communist plot to achieve mind-control through water fluoridation. What remains is a hodgepodge of isolationist, religious and right-wing goals that vary from concrete to abstract, from legitimate to conspiracy minded—goals that don’t look so different from the ideology coming out of the White House."

"It wants to pull the United States out of NAFTA (which it sees as the slippery slope that will lead us to a single-government North American Union), return America to what they call its Christian foundations, defund the UN, abolish the departments of education and energy, and slash the federal government drastically. The John Birch Society once fulminated on the idea of Soviet infiltration of the U.S. government; now, it wants to stop the investigation into Russia’s 2016 election meddling and possible collusion with the campaign of President Donald Trump."

"The Society’s ideas, once on the fringe, are increasingly commonplace in today’s Republican Party. "

Certainly does explain a whole lot, I guess then pure emotion provides the rest

You mean we should all be concerned about the "plot to achieve mind-control through water fluoridation?"

;) You have nothing to worry about. The MSM polls are accurate. Trump will be impeached. Democrats will win huge majorities in Congress soon. Relax and go to sleep. ;) You have nothing to worry about. The MSM polls are accurate. Trump will be impeached. Democrats will win huge majorities in Congress soon. Other than the superficial, I don't see any real similarity between Trumptards and the Birchers of half a century ago.

It seems like the Birchers, crazy as they were, had some sort of internally consistent view and distinct set of (nutty) policy proposals.

I have not heard Trumptards, Republicans, and Teabaggers espouse any sort of substantive policy world view in over a decade.
When you think about the last three election cycles - McCain, Romney, Trump - the only consistent value wingnuts could articulate was being against Obama, being against liberals, defining themselves exclusively on the basis of being against Democrats.

From what I can deduce, what rightwingers of the past decade lacked in actual principles, they more than made of with a set of core emotional tenets:

1) Being against anything, anything at all, Obama did.
2) A flourishing attachment to schadenfreude; basing their political goals on how effective it is perceived to cause misery to liberals and black people.
3) a barely concealed resentment against people of color.

Actually, the last time I remember seeing conservatards passionately make the case for a tangible policy position, it was when they were bellowing at us how awesome the Iraq War was going to be; how it was going to be an excellent adventure, and how Democrats were on the wrong side of history.

I think too many people are worried about Democrats taking over Congress, given the GOP's track record, majority probably wish they would

And as far as impeachment, you kidding, and miss all the entertainment and laughs this President provides for the next three and half years?
