St. Louis Gave Workers a Wage Hike. Missouri Republicans Are Taking it Away.

No, Seattle has a vibrant economy even with raising the minimum wage to $15.

Many urban .. democratic controlled .. municipalities are moving to, or working on legislation to increase the minimum wage for workers .. as well as working to ensure those workers and families have healthcare.

The COLA is so high in Seattle that $15/hr has about the same buying power of someone elsewhere making $10/hr.

I believe you said you are a business owner so I know you know the difference between you giving an employee a raise and the gov't mandating you do it.

As the Seattle report showed those most vulnerable lost hours and pay as a result of the increase. So I don't go to a grocery store and think I hope the cashier isn't making money. What I do know is gov't mandating increases hurt the one's it purports to be helping.

I want people to do well. I understand raising the minimum wage may be well intentioned but we know the results.

(I will say from a governing perspective I'm ok with cities and states taking the initiative to raise the rate to what they feel is appropriate. But the Seattle results speak for themselves.)

My business is highly technical, thus there is only one employee doing non-technical work and she's already paid more than Seattle's $15. an hour minimum wage.

I have no problem with government dictating fairness in this society. That's what its there for.

The Seattle report you cling to was flawed .. as the following report demonstrated. You cling to a flawed report, but Seattle's economy, rising businesses, and historically lower unemployment slaps your report in the face. :0) You can't deal with that truth, and you don't even try.

Yes, the Seattle report and reality all speak for themselves.

Still don't understand how the benefit to Seattle workers hurts you.

I don't even think you know.

They ran on it in 2016.

No they didn't. It was an issue they discussed, but far from 'running on it' they didn't hammer it home as they should.

Couple that with republican self-serving ignorance on healthcare and it's a clear demonstration of how much republicans don't give a damn.

Be my guest to run on it. Part of what you'll see as a result is a step up in automation which isn't going to help workers. And you'll see small businesses struggle.

:0) Sure .. and Seattle will crumble to the ground as it's economy implodes from minimum wage increases.

How about NOT.

Seattle is becoming Silicon Valley North with Amazon just blowing up in the City. How many other cities have those same dynamics? You think St. Louis compares to Seattle?

Seattle is a long ass way from becoming Silicon Valley in a myriad of ways.

St. Louis has its own dynamics, but there is no doubt it could stand for a raise in minimum wages .. just as it has always happened.

Still don't get how this harms you .. please stop pretending it's best for workers.

It means they're still making squat in in a high cost of living city.

Then I repeat .. it's a good thing they raised the minimum wage .. unless you think that them making less than squat was a good thing.

Maybe you should read what you think before you type it.

How does them making more money hurt you?

Get a grip. I understood what I was saying. They won't be satisfied with that on the left coast.

Obviously you've never been to Seattle. It has a far more diverse everything than one would find in Silicon Valley.

There is room at the top and the bottom.

.. AND, with more engineers moving there, that alone makes the case for raising the minimum wage for those at the bottom.

How does this hurt you .. which I'm going to keep asking no matter how much you ignore it.

What you're saying doesn't make any sense .. even for a republican.

According to you .. costs of living are going up and already high .. but somehow, according to you, the minimum wage shouldn't be increased for whatever unknown reason.

Sure.

How much time do you spend their currently? My current boss commutes weekly from Seattle to work here in SF. He grew up there and went to UW and talks all the time about the changes in the City.

That you don't give a fuck about.

Workers in Seattle aren't fighting to keep their wages low .. and Seattle is booming with jobs and low unemployment .. but you're thinking about the poor workers. :0)

How about you're thinking about the right-wing meme you cling to that says higher minimum wages don't work .. in the face of it working?

Goddamn that was stupid .. which is no surprise coming from you.

Why not lower wages to one dollar an hour .. according to you that will mean full employment. Stupid.

Restaurants want to bankrupt the fast food industry by raising the minimum wage TO THE SAME RATES THEY TOO WILL HAVE TO PAY????? :rofl2: and you had the nerve to follow that stupid shit with "THINK" :rofl2:

OK :0)
Yea...those pesky restaurants that pay $2/hr. and tell employees that tips will more than make up for it.
