Senators insist their bill – passed on Thursday by a margin of 98 to two – is designed to punish Moscow for interfering in last year’s presidential election and limit Mr Trump’s ability to lift sanctions.

the Nord Stream 2 pipeline is being built beneath the Baltic Sea to supply Russian gas to Germany and beyond. It avoids older routes through Ukraine, which have been disrupted by disputes between Kiev and Moscow.

In a joint statement, Sigmar Gabriel, the German Foreign Minister, and Christian Kern, the Austrian Chancellor, said European energy supplies were a matter for Europe not the US.

The bill is designed in part to make it more difficult for Mr Trump to lift sanctions imposed on Russia for annexing Crimea. As a candidate, he was vocal in his praise for Vladimir Putin, raising suspicions that once in office he would ease restrictions in return for Russian support.

I'm not sure how familiar you are with the Constitution, but, foreign policy is kind of one of the Senate's functions...

you mean like Declare War? they can't even run their own powers.
No. they really have no other role then a treaty,and POTUS has been designing "international executive agreements" to even usurp that basic role.

They are self-marginalized jokers except when they smell a politicalburger. Other then that they should just #STFU.

title is a bit off,but Germany's beef is with the US for yet more sanctions ( that do not change Putin's behavior) as the expense of their energy sector jobs.. read the link

Well, as you may know, the Constitution doesn't stipulate that the Senate should #STFU.

I was being facetious; it is equally laughable thinking that if we slapped tariffs on the automobile industry they'd be begging us to end that war too.

Ya. I spent 2/3 of my life in Maryland, but only 1/3 in Baltimore - so i'm not some idiot progressive.
I am fairly centrist. I'm a Federalist too boot. They partys are moving more to the extremes.

One reason I voted for Trump is the partys have made them selves ungovernable because of the emphasis on party purity.
