A former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee claims the U.S. intelligence community has become too “politicized” under the Obama administration.

“The intelligence community has not been providing us with very good intelligence over the last number of years, and too often it has been massaged to fit the political narrative that the political leaders want and not giving us just unadulterated facts,” former Republican Congressman Pete Hoekstra, Mich., told radio host John Catsimatidis during an interview on Sunday.

Hoekstra accused intelligence officials of disseminating poor information about the regimes of Moammar Gadhafi and Bashar Assad in Libya and Syria, respectively, which made worse the situations in both countries.

He also criticized National Intelligence Agency Director James Clapper, who in 2011 described the Muslim brotherhood as “largely secular” and “benign.”

“You don’t want [intelligence] massaged to fit the narrative of whoever’s in political office or what the popular narrative is,” Hoekstra said.

He added,

“What I’ve seen or witnessed from outside of Congress now is an intelligence committee that is much more politicized.”

Hoekstra served as chair of the House Intelligence Committee until shortly before Obama took office in 2008.

That tells me the Deep State ( career/un-elected intelligence agencies bureaucrats )are those who can decide what to emphasize, and what to unmask, and what to leak to POTUS and the MS media.
They can't create a narrative but they can drive a narrative

It tells me we have always been tolerant of CIA covert black box activities because they were waged at foreign governments.
But this is power leaking to damage or push a US president's foreign policy.

The Deep State is an unelected power structure that operates within the government. The term implies a coherent structure but it may be amorphous and comprised of a loose assortment of ideologues that guide policy---mostly foreign policy.

Or leak information [which they do in concert with a compliant media] to orchestrate fake news with the intent of having a political effect.

I lean towards the amorphous conglomerate of ideologues but I have no doubt 'the Deep State' exists. You'd have to be blind or in denial to not recognize it.

Oliver Stone joined Tucker Carlson to discuss his new four-hour documentary on Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russia's alleged meddling in the U.S. presidential election, and intelligence agencies' "hostility" toward President Donald Trump.

Stone said that many in the intelligence community have claimed that Putin "hacked" the U.S. election, but he said we don't know that for sure.

"We have to have evidence of this. There's a thin amount of evidence," Stone said. "It's been told to us by three agencies - the CIA, the NSA and the FBI. It was told to us in January, a few days before Mr. Trump came into office."

He said the intelligence assessment is "thin" and simply doesn't have the evidence required.

He also said that CIA Director John Brennan created a "fear and paranoia" with his testimony that Russia directly interfered in the election.

"I'm shocked at what the CIA did and what Brennan did. It seemed like he was very hostile to Trump," Stone said.

"Trump was, in a sense, slapped in the face with two weeks to go," Stone said. "This thing is serious. It's calling Trump, essentially, a 'Manchurian Candidate.' That's as hostile as it's ever been in a transition."

He said if anybody actually influenced the 2016 election, it was former FBI Director James Comey, who announced that the investigation into Hillary Clinton's private email was dropped and then reopened just weeks before the election.

CARLSON: There was just a story out that the investigation into Trump by former FBI Director Robert Mueller, apparently FBI agents are leaking details of that investigation to the press and you’re seeing leaks from all the different intel agencies against the administration. It seems like they’re trying to change their policies. Does that surprise you?

STONE: Well, the overtness of it does. If the investigation were to continue, which it probably will, I think they have to go back to the origins of that leak in January. Who put out that information? Who gave it to The New York Times, The Washington Post, back channel? You have to ask these questions.”

It seems as if some people have said, and I tend to agree – the deep state, the military-industrial complex, the intelligence agencies have their own position and have had it for many years. And they continue to promote the wars that they do in all these countries. Even Obama said I want to close Guantanamo, I want to cut down on Afghanistan, and I want to do this and I want to do that. He didn’t do it. You have to ask yourself who is running the country.
