Dude, I was being sarcastic, should have used green font. I wouldn't embarrass myself by suggesting that traffic would be better if we had more housing on the costal areas. ......the defies logic in my book.

My sister has been in real estate over 40 years......I'll take her perspective and over yours any day.

And you didn't address why housing prices are high after high end developments from foreign and domestic developers rehab properties so unattainable for the middle class worker? Why aren't developers developing affordable housing in existing urban, downtown, and inner cities? Are racist white liberals stopping them from pricing existing affordable housing?

Show your sister what i wrote and ask her if I'm wrong. Again, your last paragraph clearly shows you don't understand how the market and the rules work for housing. I promise you your head won't explode but read the article in the OP which address specifically your point.

People can have a discussion and disagree but you don't have the basic knowledge required in this area to even have a discussion.

It defy's logic that when you can't build in the urban core people will build further and further out? Not sure how it defy's logic because we see it in action.

Yes, the American dream is to commute 90 to 120 minutes each way to be able to afford a home.

And let me guess, you'll say you care about the environment but have no problem with people having those kinds of commutes.

You can only build so much on the beaches... rolling my eyes.

Downtown and inner city areas are owned by mostly foreign investors who have been developing very high end lofts, townhomes, and jail cell size apartments and selling them for astrominical amounts of money. His article doesn't explain why those investors won't make those properties affordable. No building required.

No, foreign investors don't own most of our cities. They may own certain properties but not all that much more. You didn't read the article clearly. Cities downzone which reduces the type and amount of development available. That's why we build so far out from our urban cores. Developers can't build anything affordable because it doesn't pencil out. Land and development costs are too prohibitive. Hence why we have the problems we do.

Edit: NO ONE is saying build high rises on the beaches. We're talking about urban cores. More density in SF, Oakland and San Jose. More density in DT LA and surrounding areas. Not on the beach. Nice strawman.

TTQ64, this doesn't happen in a vacuum. It all ties together. Again, please read the article, it explains this. As do the other articles I've posted. When you can't build and there is demand prices go up. It's econ 101
