Amongst the McCarthyites, anyone denounced by an enemy can simply be driven out of work or locked up, as in Guantanamo. Amongst sensible people mere denunciation from cranks is not enough, and if you have to check up on every one there will never be enough people or money - though the tory cutbacks on police have certainly not helped.

The key point is that you can't savagely cut the number of police and expect reports to be attended to. As long as CEOs are paid millions a year why should you dare to expect protection?
