No more odd than any brainwashed cult like creationists, Muslim terrorists and assorted delusionals. It's the same irrationality that allows a rabid sports fan to shrug when a bad call is made in his team's favor while one that goes against him makes him scream for justice.
Some humans are more susceptible to passion and prejudice and blind allegiance. They tend to be uneducated, irrational people with lower IQs. They therefore are attracted to Republican tribal politics, societal exclusiveness, groupthink, hate and sidelining reason.
It's a spectrum. That's why the current DSM includes a subset of delusional thought disorder of those who simply have grossly overvalued ideas. That malady allows for those who are crazed Republican sociopaths who enjoy lying to themselves about Trump's nature and yet still
can show up at the factory and punch the timeclock and weld shit or work a phone bank or even lead the boardroom. High functioning delusionals. It doesn't rise to the level of full tilt padded cell materail, but it's a form of crazy all the same, and in this instance, it has resulted in the US President being a narcissitci prick liar crook fraud who cant be trusted to give truthful directions to a tourist, much less lead the free world.
