LONDON — Theresa May backed London Mayor Sadiq Khan Monday after he was the target of a Donald Trump Twitter jibe in the aftermath of the London terror attack.

May told a press conference in Westminster Khan was doing a good job following the London Bridge attack on Saturday night and it was “wrong to say anything else.”

On Sunday, after a BBC interview in which Khan told Londoners not to be alarmed by an increased police presence in the U.K. capital, Trump tweeted: “At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is “no reason to be alarmed!”

Pushed repeatedly by reporters about Trump’s Sunday tweet, the British prime minister said she was “not afraid to say” when she thought Trump was getting things wrong.

May added that she was working with the mayor of London, who attended a COBRA meeting of the government’s emergency committee in the wake of Saturday night’s terror attack.

A spokesman for Khan, London’s first Muslim mayor, said Sunday that the mayor had “more important things to do than respond to Donald Trump’s ill-informed tweet.”

May described the terrorist attack in London Saturday night as “an attack on the free world” and also dismissed criticisms of her record on policing.

The chattering class and a lot of politicians [in other words, the same people who thought democrats could have run Attila the Hun against Trump and won lol] are all in an uproar over this.

But I think Trump may have the psychology right.

There are a class of people who are weary of political leaders trotting out the same tired trope as Khan did after every Islamic terror attack. It's like they all read from the same script. These barbarians just slit the necks of your fellow citizens or crushed them under vehicles---do you want to hear the same old 'they are attacking our freedoms' [what does that even mean?] or 'there's no reason to be alarmed' [really?] in Khan's instance? Or in Khan's instance again 'we should get used to terrorist attacks'.

I think many people are tired of that out of their leaders. They want to see someone be as pissed off as they are about it.

I think Trump tapped into it.

I think Mrs May further discredited herself by not backing a respected British figure MUCH more strongly against this decadent foreign madman.

have you seen the latest intel leak

this fuck trump was picked by vald

Putin picked trump not the American people

Kahn says he can't follow all the possible terrorists who came back to UK. Says its not a priority. Trump is right. Yet again. Kahn is useless.

Weird how you thick buggers who know nothing about anything believe you know better than the elected mayor of this city. It's the drugs, I suppose, like so much that goes on in that strange country of yours. Do you suppose anyone would ever elect you to anything, ever?

I just read a piece on CNN online where the writer concedes Trump is right on the broad points.

Though Khan is right in at least one sense: the city is overwhelmed. There's too many terrorists to keep track of---so the citizens need to adapt to periodic murderous mayhem.

I also get the sense Trump has many sympathizers in London and Europe more broadly. But the U.K. media---like the media here, would under-report it.

After centuries spent destroying Muslim societies, there is no way to deal with the resultant hate amongst ignorant and fanatical people other than to set up a total police state or negotiate, as the UK did with the IRA. Since the ISIS movement is still in an inchoate state, negotiation is currently impossible. We can play with bang-bangs in the Middle East all we like, but the cost is going to be terrorism here. It is like what we've done to the climate: nothing to do but learn to live with it and act better than the fanatics, which, by and large, British people have managed to do.

Yeah, I agree. People should stick to what they know. Goodbye.
