The conservative weather vane just turned in a new direction.

Don't look for Solyndra anytime soon.
Hey darth, did you see what criminal coal baron Blankenship did the minute he got sprung from the joint?
"Freshly at liberty, Blankenship has resumed his campaign to portray himself as the victim of a government conspiracy. It’s a remarkable claim, warranting close scrutiny before it’s dismissed as preposterous. Incidentally, aficionados of executive audacity should appreciate that within days of his release from prison, Blankenship wrote wrote to President Trump attesting to his own devotion to the men who were once under his corporate thumb."
Oh, wow - a single company failed as they were pursuing a new, promising technology?
That's never happened in the history of new technology being developed. Time to abandon it & move onto the next thing.
As he announced his decision to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement, President Trump said he was putting American jobs ahead of the needs and desires of other countries.
"I was elected to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris," he said Thursday.
Trump said the agreement was "very unfair" for the U.S., especially the U.S. coal industry. And he alluded to some recent good news for the battered industry: the development of new mines.
The Claim: "The mines are starting to open up, having a big opening in two weeks. Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, so many places. A big opening of a brand, new mine. It's unheard of. For many, many years that hasn't happened. They asked me if I'd go. I'm going to try."
Short Answer: Yes, mines are beginning to open up, including a new one in Pennsylvania. But that doesn't reverse the overall decline of the coal mining industry from its glory days.

Further down, NPR tried their best to spin the good news but it's a fact: Trump was roundly mocked for promising to bring coal jobs back and it's happening.
MAGA.
Long Answer
The coal mines that are opening up produce a special kind of coal used in steelmaking and are opening largely because of events unrelated to federal policy, experts say. The market for the kind of coal used in electricity — the biggest use for coal — remains down relative to where it was several years ago.
In other words, the industry has rebounded slightly after years of layoffs and closures caused mainly by competition from cheap natural gas. And a handful of new mines in Wyoming, Alabama, Pennsylvania and West Virginia are either opening or slated to open in the next few years.
The part of the article you neglected to post:
Christiefan, contrary to what you might read, coal mining is a contentious issue here in WV.
Jobs vs the environment. The stark reality is there is a demand for coal and WV has an abundance of it. There just isn't a more cost effective source of energy to be found, anywhere. The exception being natural gas and we have it too. People here want to work---much more than they care about Western European sensibilities or hypotheses about the effect of burning fossil fuels on global temperatures.
Hardly anyone here is a fan of Don Blankenship. But that's a different issue.
ahhhhhhhhh..lol..Trump is"language impaired". It's not like we didn't know this-.Of course Obama did not criticize them. Without them everyone got to see what the man did not know. Ahh, Ahhhhhh, and Ahhhhhh. That comment being out of the way, I agree with you about Trump. He does have a habit of engaging his mouth before his brain thinks about what it is saying. Comes back and bites him in the kista.
Aren't those pretty low paying jobs, dangerous & filled w/ health problems??At one time coal was big in southwestern PA too. Coal and steel were our claim to fame. Those industries began dying off a long time ago because of several factors including cheap foreign product. Coal production dropped massively just since 2001, preceded by other drops in the decades before. So I'm not blind to all the problems and issues. I just do not believe than trump or anybody can bring those industries back to what they were. Others have tried without success.
Aren't those pretty low paying jobs, dangerous & filled w/ health problems??
It's interesting, talk about reforming S.S. and Medicare for our grandchildren and you'll hear some liberals head explode, but talk about global warming and they're wiling to do what ever they can to economy today even with the knowledge it will have almost no impact down the road
Aren't those pretty low paying jobs, dangerous & filled w/ health problems??
I don't know about pay but certainly danger and health problems go with the territory. That's what makes me so angry with pigs like Don Blankenship, who violated safety standards for years until there was a disaster. Twenty-nine miners lost their lives to his greed and criminal behaviour. And he's not the only one.
Almost every state in the country has a "black lung" office that was set up to compensate miners for the lung diseases they got from breathing in coal dust. trump can brag about bringing back coal, yet he's the same schmuck who wants to eliminate the regulations that at least give miners a fighting chance in a dangerous job.
No. They can be, depending on the type of mine and what you do in them.
Also, there's a whole flotilla of mine related industries that are tied to coal mining where good money can be made---especially in the trades like, welding, electrician, heavy equipment operator and the like.
Blue collar city. They used to vote reliably democratic. Until the democrats went off the progressive Deep End.
Then why are those producing areas so poor?
They lack government programs lol?
Very inciteful. Not one single response from a libtard. Maybe you confused them?
