Kathy Griffin Comedy Tour Shows Canceled Over Donald Trump Photo

Several shows on Kathy Griffin’s Celebrity Run-In Tour have been canceled after the release of a photo depicting the comedienne holding up a fake decapitated head of President Donald Trump. Many venues around the country are now cutting ties with Griffin over the controversy.

As Gossip Cop reported, a photo of Griffin holding Trump’s head after a beheading went viral on Wednesday and the comedienne has received a ton of backlash over the shocking image. Trump himself responded to Griffin’s photo, saying she “should be ashamed of herself. The comedienne later released a video apologizing for the image and admitted she “went too far.”

Despite her apology, five shows on Griffin’s comedy tour have been scrapped by the venues slated to hold them, and it’s possible more cancellations will follow. The comedienne’s two scheduled shows in California on June 16 and October 13 have been axed, as has a planned July 22 show at Route 66 Casino in Albuquerque. The St. George Theater in Staten Island then removed Griffin’s November 2 show from its schedule, while the State Theatre in New Brunswick, NJ has canceled her scheduled performance on November 3.

The cancelation of Griffin’s comedy shows is just the latest blow to the comedienne’s career as a result of her scandalous Trump photo. Earlier this week, toilet company Squatty Potty dropped Griffin from its upcoming ad campaign. Shortly later, CNN announced its decision to fire Griffin from its annual New Year’s Eve show, which she had co-hosted for nearly a decade.

Kathy Griffin was funny when she was the annoying character on Seinfeld, and only for about 5 minutes. She turned that shtick into an ongoing routine, and in the end became the new Joan Rivers. The only irony is that she is a progressive and did something politically incorrect, and was socially punished for it by both liberals AND conservatives. Meanwhile, Trump is president.

Good. She is awful anyway. How the hell did she get famous? And manage to stay in the spotlight?

Al Franken Backpedals, Disinvites Kathy Griffin From Book Event

Sen. Al Franken is the latest politician to disassociate himself from Kathy Griffin, disinviting her from a promotional event for his new book.

The Democratic senator from Minnesota had annouced just the day before that he would be honoring the joint appearance because the comedian had “begged for forgiveness” after posing for photos while holding a decapitated head prop of President Donald Trump.

However, Franken told Politico on Thursday that “it would be best” for Griffin not to attend the*July 7 event in California for his book “Giant of the Senate.”

“I believe what Kathy Griffin did was inappropriate and not something that should be anywhere in our national discourse. I consider her a friend and I’m glad she realized she crossed the line and apologized,” Franken said.

“After hearing from many Minnesotans who were rightfully offended, I’ve come to the conclusion that it would be best for her not to participate in the event we had previously scheduled. I understand why Minnesotans were upset by this, and I take that very seriously,” he added.

Franken was under pressure form both sides of the aisle to cancel the event at Beverly Hills’ Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts.

“I think she did the right thing, and asking for forgiveness and acknowledging … this was a horrible mistake,” he told CNN earlier this week, insisting that*the former reality star could recover from the incident.

CNN fired Griffin*on Wednesday from its New Year’s Eve telecasts amid the scandal.*Griffin and attorney Lisa Bloom will hold a press conference on Friday to discuss the controversy.

Kathy Griffin: Donald Trump is 'messing with the wrong redhead'

Kathy Griffin and civil-rights lawyer Lisa Bloom came for Donald Trump Friday.

"I’m not afraid of Trump," she said. "He’s a bully. I’ve dealt with older white guys trying to keep me down my whole career."

She spoke to reporters in order to address what they both view as a disproportionate response by the president and his family after she posed with a fake, severed Trump head for photographer Tyler Shields.

Those photos, Bloom said, were meant to be a parody of Trump's infamous "blood-blood-coming-out-of-her-whatever" comments about then-Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly.

"She captioned it, 'There was blood coming out of his wherever.' It was a parody of Trump's own sexist remarks taken to an extreme, absurdist visual."

Following the release of the photo, the president tweeted, "Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself. My children, especially my 11-year-old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!"

His eldest child, Donald Jr., called Griffin's photo "disgusting" in a tweet. On Wednesday, in a flurry of tweets, he called her subsequent apology "phony." He also mocked CNN for lacking the "moral and ethical standards" of Squatty Potty, the toilet stool company who fired Griffin before they did.

In a statement, first lady Melania Trump said the incident makes one "wonder about the mental health of the person who did it."

Bloom said that her client never imagined it could be misinterpreted as a threat of violence against Trump. "That was never what she intended."

In addition to losing her New Year's TV gig on CNN, an endorsement and several standup performances, Griffin has received "detailed, specific" death threats and is under investigation by the United States Secret Service, which her criminal attorney, Dmitry Gorin, expects will be resolved in her favor.

Griffin's hands shook and her voice occasionally became choked as she discussed the emotional impact of the last week.

"He broke me and then I was like 'No, this isn’t right'. I apologized because was the right thing to do. Then it became a mob mentality pile-on."

Bloom says her client is not in a fair fight.

"He’s not just Donald Trump, real estate developer, having a celebrity feud," she said. "He’s using the power of the government."

She gradually regained her confidence, proclaiming, "He wants to mess with me?" the comedian said at a press conference in Los Angeles. "He picked the wrong redhead!"

Bloom is quite familiar with Trump: She represented Jill Harth, the first woman to publicly accuse Trump of sexual misconduct. Harth, a makeup artist hired to work with him on his pageant business, said he groped and sexually assaulted her in 1997. They settled that case and Harth kept quiet for years until other women began speaking out against him during the 2016 election season. Harth went as far as threatening to countersue him if he followed through on his threats to sue his accusers.

Griffin apologized within hours of the images appearing online. But she was roundly criticized for the photo and suffered financial repercussions, including the loss of her New Year's hosting gig on CNN, an endorsement deal and canceled standup performances in New Jersey and New Mexico.

On Thursday, the State Theatre in New Brunswick and the Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood said they made the decision after careful consideration. Griffin was scheduled to perform in her “Celebrity Run-In” tour at the theaters in November. Those who bought tickets will receive refunds.

A New Mexico casino had already announced it was scrapped the comedian's scheduled July 22 performance.

The 56-year-old comic has faced controversies before for her abrasive humor, but none as widespread as the one generated by Tuesday’s images.

That's it Kathy, just keep digging that hole deeper and deeper. :good4u:

You have to understand the minds of the left as I do.

They are not offended by what she did. Al Franken? Seriously? I guarantee that he privately thinks what she did is hilarious and supports it 1000%.

No the reason they are publicly turning their backs on her is purely political. The left is in the midst of trying to destroy Donald Trump and what Griffin did threw a wrench in their news cycle. Additionally, they couldn't allow Griffin to make Trump a sympathetic person. Every leftist thought what she did was awesome, but they rightfully feared that there would be a backlash and it would cause people to tune them out.

This was all about Stuart Smiley's worry that Trump would be seen as a sympathetic bystander of left wing rage.

I was going to make a quality comment. Then I thought "fuck it, ain't worth it" so I was going to go smart ass troll. Then, I just couldn't bring myself to do even that because it's Kathy Griffin!

Congratulations Kathy, you've made yourself the Jane Fonda of the year 2017. :good4u:

This will teach her to be more PC to the trump dynasty... Good to see PC is back in w/ the folks that bad rapped it for years..:rofl2:

Griffin not 'laying down' for Trump, fears career is over

Embattled comedian Kathy Griffin says she's not afraid of Donald Trump and plans to keep making fun of him but maintained that she's sorry for a video that depicted her holding a likeness of the president's severed, bloody head.

At a rambling press conference Friday, Griffin tearfully predicted her career is over and said Trump "broke me." Since the video was posted Tuesday, she has lost her job co-hosting CNN's New Year's Eve special and had five comedy shows canceled. Trump, first lady Melania Trump and Donald Trump Jr. have publicly criticized the video.

Griffin, who asserted that she has been contacted by the Secret Service, said the Trumps are "trying to ruin my rights forever."

White House officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Griffin, 56, repeated her claim that the video was a parody, meant as a pointed comeback to Trump's remark last summer that former Fox News Channel personality Megyn Kelly had "blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of wherever."

"I'm not laying down for this guy," she said in one defiant moment. "I'm going to keep making jokes about this guy."

Republican Party spokesman Mike Reed called the press conference a "desperate attempt" to change the conversation.

"Kathy Griffin's career was over long before she attempted to make a disgusting joke about decapitating the President," Reed said. "What she did was wrong and President Trump and his family have every right to condemn it."

Griffin appeared surprised at the number of cameras and reporters in a packed conference room at her lawyer's office, her hands shaking at one point when she took a sip of water. She switched between contriteness to combativeness during the press conference, during which she attempted several nervous jokes that drew laughs mostly from her attorney, Lisa Bloom.

Bloom said the comedian has a First Amendment right to make fun of the president.

"Whether or not you get, or like, her artistic expression, in America, Kathy has the right to parody the president," Bloom said. "She never imagined it would be misinterpreted as a threat of violence against Trump."

Bloom, a former truTV anchor and lawyer Gloria Allred's daughter, has represented Wendy Walsh, who has accused former Fox News Channel personality Bill O'Reilly of hurting her career after she spurned his advances. O'Reilly has denied the accusations.

Backlash against Griffin has continued to grow. Griffin said five of her performances have been canceled this week.

Venues in New Jersey, New York, New Mexico and Pennsylvania canceled upcoming shows. The Community Arts Theater in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, posted on its website that the show had been dropped "due to the recent controversy surrounding Kathy Griffin and the concern for the safety and security of our patrons and staff."

Sen. Al Franken also dis-invited Griffin from an event promoting his new book, "Giant of the Senate."

"After hearing from many Minnesotans who were rightfully offended, I've come to the conclusion that it would be best for her not to participate in the event we had previously scheduled," the Minnesota Democrat said Thursday, a day after he had said she was still welcome. "I understand why Minnesotans were upset by this, and I take that very seriously."

He said what Griffin did "was inappropriate and not something that should be anywhere in our national discourse."
An endorsement deal with Squatty Potty also ended.

Though Griffin apologized within hours of the images appearing online Tuesday, they were met with swift and widespread condemnation.

Trump later tweeted that Griffin "should be ashamed of herself" for posting the images.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Thursday called Griffin "disgusting" and said the photo was "completely outrageous."

Even Anderson Cooper, her CNN co-host for the New Year's Eve show, condemned the images. Griffin said she has not spoken to Cooper since, and appeared visibly upset and struggled to speak when fielding questions about Cooper.

The comic has faced controversies before for her abrasive humor, but none as widespread as the one generated by Tuesday's images.
