Russia is presently a dictatorship kleptocracy. Putin's vassals are monied organized criminals. They still have an arsenal of nuclear weapons with sufficient throw weight to end the human race. Their strategic interests and values are in conflict with the United States on most things, from free speech and press, civil rights to geopolitical power, perhaps with one notable exception, terrorism. It is unsurprising you embrace them and attack our own free, pluralistic, democratic country.

all the more reason to accept them as a superpower and deal with them. Unlike Obama's dismissive "bad boy slouching" hoping Putin will go away.

False dichotomy. We can engage in realpolitik with USSR redux and not support a total clown in chief and his probable electoral misdeeds with them. We do not have to choose.

False characterization. Maybe Obama to some extent wrongly believed terrorism was more pressing, a higher priority, than the competition between nation states. Bad boy slouching? I don't even pretend to understand what that imagery means. Is that some sort of racial reference?
