Off the grid

Well first of all I would never buy property in Commiefornia. And I wouldn't call what I own a vacation hideyhole, although to me it is paradise.

With regards to how 7 billion people live? Most in this world live without running water and modern amenities/ sanitation you have come to take for granted. With regards to this Republican ideal you speak of, I am not sure where you are hearing it. The modern day Republican Party is indistinguishable from the democrat party in my view.

I don't think anyone is advocating that every individual live off the grid. However, I would say that too many people have become dependent on modern day life and would not know how to survive if something calamitous happened like a take down of our electrical grid. Could you survive? I know I could. I would have the basics covered. Heat, shelter and food.

Calif would be a disaster if the grid, water etc failed.. So would all large metro areas...

I have some land in the foothills, around 10acres.... There's some turkeys and deer but no way I could feed myself on it... No waterfall, but a year round stream...

It would take a lot of land here to support even one person hunting/fishing etc...

Well, I have a Mossberg 500 and a Honda inverter generator and a Dodge Ram 1500 V-8. That's a start. Should I buy a big diamond to shove up my ass if I need to bug out?

Mossberg 500 is a very nice weapon.

Honda inverter is a good call. I would suggest at least two weeks of fuel to keep it going.

Diamond would be a bad move financially. I highly recommend junk silver. Over the years I have saved quite a bit of it. A little here and a little there. It all adds up.

I believe it is a better hedge than gold. People can quantify it and unlike gold silver has practical uses. Buy junk silver. Even if you only have a couple thousand dollars worth it is a start.

Also make sure you have adequate water supply. Figure out what you would need for two months then double it.

This year as any So Cal resident knows we had some very strange and rainy weather and some electrical storms. (Yes, caused by AGW, Milagro so suck it) My house is on a small mountain in a suburban area and I can see 50 miles, but it is dense housing for 5 miles. When the power went out, I was very nearly the only lights for miles, other than the hospital and a Grocery store. I felt very smug.

The inverter is a courtesy to neighbors as it runs very quietly.

It hurts to say something nice about you, but lawyers like you are generally the best lawyers.

My Jeep is only 11 years old, I wear blue jeans to the office as often as I can (shorts in summer), I have a pair of wing tips, I do my own typing, I do have a secretary/office manager and about half my clients are black, 90% are poor. I don't belong to any clubs and rarely take my clients out to eat, sometimes we meet at the burger joint to go over something.

I've had a job for the last 15 years in court many days and in an office environment with 50 employees. As the senior litigating attorney I never wanted to set a blue jean example. In fact, even the clerks had dress code requirements even on casual friday, where most anything does. As a consequence I've accumulated 30 or more suits, but I couldn't dress myself in school clothes for a single week without repeating.

In other words the "get my coffee now bitch" of the office. Every office needs one.

Not a bad piece for home defense. Problem is some yahoo like you would end up shooting himself or someone in his own family if they ever had to actually use it.

Pretty much. That's why it's under lock n key except for private duck club trips. I love glamping. It's such a waste when they shoot those ducks and the cooks just take that little breast meat out and chuck the most of it. But it's not my culture, I just visit. I like fishing better. They have a lake there and it's full of trout. Hard to concentrate when a bunch of rich hicks are shooting bird shot all over creation or sighting their high caliber rifles and all that macho shit. A bunch of guys who didn't serve any more than I did wearing fatigues and more money than brains.

It's a simple weapon though. With the pistol grip installed it's hard to grab the action. ;)

Then you're a middle class bleeding heart unwilling to make personal sacrifices to help the poor?

I vote that my tax funds be spent on the poor, so I am willing to make personal sacrifices to help the poor. That money from my check every other week. It's personal.

That's not a sacrifice. Sacrifices involve a choice. Taxes are mandated.

If it's such a personal thing, why do you have to wait for the government to tell you. Wouldn't you just write a check without any outside influence if you truly cared? Yes you would and that's what's called a sacrifice.
