‘God save us all’: The internet is bewildered by Trump’s claim that he coined the phrase ‘priming the pump’

President Donald Trump claimed Thursday that he coined the expression “prime the pump,” a commonly used expression in economics with origins in the 19th century.

“Have you heard that expression used before? Because I haven’t heard it,” Trump told The Economist. “I mean, I just — I came up with it a couple of days ago and I thought it was good. It’s what you have to do.”

The Twitter account for the Merriam-Webster dictionary quickly corrected the president.

'Pump priming' has been used to refer to government investment expenditures since at least 1933. https://t.co/VfkGwwzZRC

You mean not a single JPP conservative wants to talk about Trump's claim that it was he who coined the term "prime the pump"?

Actually, he never said he coined the phrase, this is typical of Zappas the Liar.

He said he never heard it before and came up with it on his own.

Do I believe that? No.

If true, however, it does not mean he said he coined the phrase. Think of authors and song writers who come up with that they think is original, yet, sounds alike or is alike someone else's work.

Again, I don't believe Trump, but Zappas is lying when he said Trump claimed he coined it. He merely claimed he came up with it, to him, that is not coining a phrase.

No doubt Trump is delusional. In this case, however, he is also exhibiting his pathological lying skills.

Poor Yurt...

Always so desperate for another "gotcha" moment!

There's just one problem.

In the OP, see how there are no quotation marks around the phrase "coin the phrase"?

That means its not a direct quote...IOW the author PARAPHRASED Trump.

WHOOPSIE...Dim Bulb YurTard exposes his ignorance once again for all to see.

DAMN I'm getting tired of being right all the time!

whooooooooooooooo caaaaaaaareeeeeeeeeeees

:rofl2:

Grind just a can't STAND it that his hero Donnie just can't stop lying.

Trump's need to feel special is so great that he would need to lie about something as mundane as the origin of a phrase.

And all the little Trumpkins dance along behind.
