The white vote [which ironically, behaved like a minority bloc in 2016] and economic populism is there for the taking.
But that means democrats abandoning their leftward lurch and moving back to the center---basically, become the party of Bill Clinton again. It means moderating on abortion and welcoming at least some pro-life democrats on board in red precincts. It means moderating on climate change.
And it means abandoning identity politics---because it causes whites to act like a minority bloc. You can't make 40% of the population behave like a minority and expect to win in the EC.
The problem is national democrats [the Pelosi's and co] will have none of it. So down ticket democrats paid the price for the national democrats being hide bound, inflexible ideologues, that refused to compromise. In short, the democrats under Obama became out of touch with their own rank and file that lived anywhere but in the hyper Blue precincts.
It left the barn door swinging wide open for a populist republican; and after 8 years it left the party in shambles---they were out of power everywhere but in the WH. And now they've lost it.
Amazingly, I don't think they will change.
