New Orleans Begins Tearing Down Confederate Statues -- APPLAUSE

Give me a break with the victim card. They chose for years to throw money away on trinkets and plastic beads and a big glorified masquerade party every year instead of spending money to fix the levees. Mississippi got it worse, didn't moan, whine and complain. They simply quietly buried their dead and got on with life and rebuilding.

Then good luck with your life in the paradise of Mississippi. :0)

But the residents in New Orleans get to make their own decisions whether you agree with them or not.

After Katrina, NOLA city officials imported illegals by the truckload to rebuild. It's a chocolate city alright, just much lighter chocolate than some would have you believe.

Shame on all of us,

we have truly lost our minds, are we not bigger people than to have to deny a part of our history.
Black people need to grow a spine and quit trying to blame white people for everything.

the civil war stood for so much more than slavery
other than southern hubris and stupidity and a permanent aristocracy no it didn't.

The liberals have sold out blacks for latinos. What used to be ghettos have become barrios. Big cities are betting the farm on illegals, risking real money to protect them. This isn't some feelgood dream of minorities marching arm in arm together. This is one or the other, and liberals have made their choice.

That is a 100% correct analysis. One I have made myself months ago.

BAC thinks because JPP liberals bow down to him that he is something. He is nothing more than an uppity negro who has been thrown scraps by the democrat party. He is about to get steamrolled and doesn't even see it coming. He sows the seeds of his own destruction.

Personally, I will enjoy watching it. The democrat party has found voters even dumber than blacks. They are called spics.

BAC fails to mention that New Orleans is 100% run by the democrat party. So I guess the democrat party in New Orleans is racist?

We are at an interesting crossroad. How far will it go before one side breaks? Will everyone who gets federal assistance risk losing even one payment for the cause of illegal immigrants? My guess is it will backfire horrendously, as do all Leftist causes these days.

I applaud this action also but N.O. as a city sucks.
You started a thread about Broken Britian -- In miserable shape

When I read that sentence I immediately thought of New Orleans because it describes it to a T. One could easily substitute 'Britain' for 'New Orleans'. From what I understand that applies to other Southern cities like Mobile,AL, Charleston, SC, Savannah, GA.

I loved living in the Big Easy. Granted, is was pre-Katrina. Loved the food, the culture, and the people. I could literally feel the weight of history on my shoulders in this great American city.

I suppose one could choose to live their lives in places like Hazard County Georgia, and Bismark, North Dakota. And I am sure, that is a life that would appeal to many a teabagger!

But personally, my life has been enriched in innumerable and intangible ways living from in some of our great, historic American cities.

Laissez le bon temps rouler!

They literally had a monument to a bunch of white supremacists who attempted a coup on the city government. Disgusting. Why didn't the federal government send troops to raze this a long time ago?

this is all bullshit historical revisionism. The confederates weren't fighting for some noble goal. They were traitors that wanted to own slaves. No one in the confederacy was a man of honor.
The statues are to the generals Robeert E. Lee (etc.). No question Lee fought for Virginia, not the Confederacy/not for slavery.
The men of both sides were valorous, they deserve to be remembered, and they deserve a statue where appropriate.
Not on public lands like statehouse flags, but where there is historical interest.

Don't try to make Lee a hero, he was not oblivious.

Agreed. If Lee truly had believed in American principles, then he would have fought for America rather than against it.

You don't notice there ever was a Katrina.
Loved the food, the culture, and the people. I could literally feel the weight of history on my shoulders in this great American city.
I can see that. You didn't live there for very long I'll bet. It was a great place to be a student in professional school and I'm sure Tulane would've been a great place for undergrad. But after owning a business there (nobody pays their bills), having two friends and an uncle murdered and having been a victim of armed robbery and vandalism (twice) one gets a slightly different perspective. Grow up there and live there long enough you'd have similar experiences. Everyone from there has.

I don't know what teabaggers like but I've lived in upper Bavaria (3 yrs), Veneto region of northern Italy(1), New Mexico(2), Boise, ID(2), Ketchikan, AK(2) and now here since leaving N.O(17). It's been quite a ride and all very nice places!

That's a line you'd never hear an actual French speaker utter. It's incoherent in French.

these are historical erections - the one about the white supremecist should have come down.
Jefferson Davis too perhaps

Beware any society that denies it's history for political correctness.

I can see banning Nazi emblems in Germany-there was nothing honorable about the Nazi's
but men of honor did fight for their states ( not the Confederacy so much) -not so much Jefferson Davis
as Robert E. Lee.
Look at the surrender at Appomattox -done in an honorable fashion

There is nothing honorable in treason.
Those scum are an embarrassment and a treacherous blemish on America's history...
The only historical context they should ever be put in is, America's greatest enemies.
