Erin Moran, of Happy Days, dies from opiate overdose

Canceled
Very sad, I used to love Happy Days even though it was cheesy at times. Opiates are a massive problem in the US but are hardly talked about, as evidenced by there being no threads about them on here.

Seems she didn't give a shit about using them.

I thought what people did to their bodies was their business.

It's sad something like this happens but if what people do to their bodies is their choice, why does it suddenly become a concern when something like this happens?

Because opiate abuse is a huge problem in the US.

Isn't that a choice of the person using them? I thought what people did with their bodies was their choice. At what point should we butt out of the choice and what point should we become concerned?

Like I said, it's sad that it happens but according to many, their choices are none of my business. That being the case, I choose to butt out even when this is the result.

Well we all know that you are a heartless bastard without an ounce of decency.

i have little sympathy for pill OD's. you know the damn milligrams, and you know that taking more then the recommended dose puts you at risk.. Use responsibly and you don't OD.

Heroin is different - you never know the dosage

Didn't you use to use heroin?

Addiction is addiction. Does not matter how you are using it. I would think you would agree on that.

i was a Baltimore junkie for almost 20 years.
I was very careful -and I never shot dope -just snorted it..less chance of an OD that way
as well as infections/hepatitis -all that crap.
With fentanyl it's a whole new ball game out there -you just can't dose safely.."no hope in dope"

for pills there are no excuses..none.

sure..but addiction doesn't mean you can't control your dosages -that's why they call it OD -overdosing.
People get stupid and want to get higher, instead of just riding it out. I got no patience for them.

They are they reasons there are war on pain pills = pain management

I agree. No reason DR's should be prescribing the hard shit for a sprain or something. It is getting out of control obviously.

no that's not what I mean at all. If you got a bad sprain, you got a lot of pain, and it's debilitating.
You might not need 30 pills, but you need enough for 3 days. and there is no reason you shouldn't get them.

I am especially careful. I realize I can lapse into addiction,so when I take this stuff,i take it short term
and very low dosage.
like 2.5 milli (1/2 a tab) of oxy, or 1/2 of a 7.5 hydrocodone - or maybe 1 codeine a day when it gets bad.
and that's it. you only use it for pain breakout.

It's the idiots that are not careful that screw it up for us all..
It's pain management,not pain relief

Pain management used to mean ice. Now for something like a sprain, minor fracture etc, it is opiates. That is a big reason for this epidemic. People get hooked who should have never been on them to begin with.

What we know is that you play both sides of the issue. You want people to be able to do with their bodies what they want to do while others should butt out. However, when something like this happens, you want those supposed to butt out to give a shit. Again, which one is it?

These are 2 separate concepts. Most value individual liberty at least on some basic level. But we can still feel sad when people make bad choices, with tragic results.

Of course, addicts and substance abusers are responsible for their own actions. But we can still mourn for them when they lose those battles.

It depends sailor..a sprain can be really bad, and if you have to move on it can re-aggrevate the injury.
So you're better off with a pain pill if it helps you move in a normal fashion, instead of a severe limp.

What was happening was over prescribing the dosages and the frequency.
A good rule of thumb is not getting full pain relief from an opiate,
but still a significant aid towards managing the pain. It's an aid not a panacea.
