A Detroit area physician faces federal charges for allegedly performing female genital mutilation on multiple 6- to 7-year-old girls as part of a religious and cultural practice at a medical clinic in Livonia. Detroit Free Press.

For the second time in a week, authorities have charged a metro Detroit doctor with breaking a federal genital mutilation law, this time arresting a suburban physician and his wife for allegedly helping another doctor perform genital cutting on 7-year-old girls in a Livonia clinic.

According to a criminal complaint unsealed Friday, while a doctor removed parts of the girls' genitals, the wife of the clinic owner held the girls' hands "in order to comfort them."

Two months later, Dr. Fakhruddin Attar, 53, and his wife, Farida Attar, 50, both of Livonia, were arrested Friday morning at the Burhani Medical Clinic in Livonia, where the alleged cuttings took place.

They should be ordered to suffer the same "treatment" that those girls suffered.
 
Yea, that was my first reaction/thought as well, but in this country isn't something like that considered cruel & unusual??

no. Your not allowed to impose your culture on others. You have to respect them :) There should be no expectation of integration :)

In theory, education would stop it.

But at what price? If you advocate open immigration from some parts of the world, things like genital mutilation is part of the bargain. And that's not even the worst of it.

Many of these people are unskilled, can't speak our language and in too many instances have no desire to 'become American' like immigrants in the past.

Being an American citizen entails more than setting foot on the continent and signing some papers: it means accepting our values. It means not trying to make this country into something it's not.

Allow enough of those in, and the chickens WILL come home to roost. You can take it to the bank.

We brought in a law 20 odd years ago but until recently nobody was prosecuted. Again due to political correctness and a feeling by too many that it was cultural relativism and therefore not their business to question other cultures.
