Trouble for R's?

here is another reason why thing1 is wrong:

Two big questions remain. Was this race just another fluky special election that will not be easily replicated? And did Thompson in defeat give Democrats a road map for a winning strategy in 2018?

Special elections are often low-turnout affairs marked by local quirks, which can lead to aberrations in voting patterns. And the biggest quirk in Kansas was the Republican deadweight of its governor, Sam Brownback.

Brownback’s deep tax cuts had led to unpopular spending cuts in education, driving his approval down to a rock bottom 27 percent. Estes was tied to Brownback’s administration as state treasurer, and Thompson — whose internal polling showed Trump retaining majority approval in the district — mainly trained his fire on Brownback. In fact, Thompson credited Trump and his last-minute robocall endorsement with dragging Estes over the finish line: “I probably shouldn't say this, but Mr. Estes didn't beat us. It took the president of the United States.”

thing1 has been asserting in this thread and in another thread that trump was the reason the guys vote margin was so low. This however completely ignores the nuances of local politics. The reason the guy struggled had far more to do with being tied to the governors policy, not being shackled to trump. thing1 has explicitly asserted that trump was a liability that almost cost the republican the seat, when in fact it was quite the opposite - trump was NOT a liability, he was an ASSET that helped him get over the finish line. Trump still has massive support in that country, and it's that support that saved the day.

Again, the article is very clear, he was NOT harmed by trump. He was HELPED.

I saw that Brownback thing on one of the GOP talking points sites.

Figured it would be making the rounds. It's weird; I don't think anything I'm saying is that odd or overly optimistic. The GOP is maxed out anyway, and Trump WILL be a very unpopular President, barring the production of some miracle. He is simply not a well-liked or likable person. He had the good fortune of running against the same.

2018 is a no brainer for any casual observer of politics. When has the country EVER felt comfortable giving one party full control & then deciding the next election to give them even MORE power?

Right after Comey's letter, I said he cost Hillary the election. When the polls didn't change as much as I thought, I said in the last day or 2 that I thought Hillary would win - and I've said that many times on this board.

You get these weird obsessions w/ extreme minutiae - like the "hysteria" thing. You're really a somewhat deranged person. I'm sorry that I'm under your skin enough where you have to sprint all over the board trying to provoke me & all that. You should get over it.

this is a classic post of someone retreating back to putting their head in the sand. Once I present actual evidence that the guy was not being harmed by trump (which was your entire premise) and in fact it was trump that saved the day for him because trump is actually VERY POPULAR in that district, you start with the "bu-bu-bu..trump..unpopular...he will def lose...um um um russians... um trust me he WILL BE unpopular..."

You seem very confused about what constitutes "evidence."

But I'm sure you're right. Trump's immense popularity throughout America - a more beloved political figure I cannot remember - will surely expand already healthy GOP majorities everywhere in '18.
