Most people are uneducated and lazy. More people listen to country and rap, not a chamber orchestra. Most people watch MTV ridiculous whatever show, instead of reading Atlantic. It makes sense that Republican news channel would have the highest ratings, especially considering it is your only trusted provider of punditry that is palatable to you in your safe space. The demographic that does not like a steady diet of right wing lies is more likely to contain a subset of dynamic humans running triathalons, reading Proust and dividing its attentions among all the other sources of information available, all of which your cult channel has condemned.

You are correct, there are more hayseeds rubes and dumbfucks watching the only TV channel prescribed to you 24 hours per day than enlightened free thinkers with a life watching KPBS in the 30 odd minutes they find throughout each well lived day.
