april 2 2017 The grandfather of a dead teenage robber criticized an Oklahoma man for using an AR-15 to defend himself against the group of burglars Friday.

Leroy Schumacher, the grandfather, said there was no reason his grandson had to die over the attempted robbery, reports KTUL.

“What these three boys did was stupid,” Schumacher told KTUL. “They knew they could be punished for it but they did not deserve to die.”

Jacob Redfearn, his grandson, and two other teens, Maxwell Cook and Jake Woodruff , were fatally shot by Zach Peters when they tried to break into Peters’ home on March 27. Armed with an AR-15, Peters shot all three of the would-be robbers.

And many people think it's wrong that you can be convicted of murder even though you didn't kill anyone. Commit a felony that involves a death and it's felony murder. If you rob a bank with a toy gun and a guard shoots at you and kills a bystander then YOU are guilty of felony murder.

My family have been trained on such eventualities.

We have 12 and 20 gauge pump shot guns in the house. The family has been instructed that if someone invades our house they are to vacate immediately to the farthest room they can get to with the shotgun and phone.

1) call 911
2) state loudly and clearly that 911 has been called and that there is nothing in this particular room worth them dying for. They can have whatever they want in the rest of the house. Leave cell phone on record and capture entire interaction
3) if the burglar attempts to gain entry to the room shout one more warning. If they do not heed then begin shooting until you are out of shells.
4) they are to instruct 911 to inform the police that they are armed and to call the phone number when they arrive so there are no unfortunate events with police

I have had my family practice for this eventuality even at 3am. This is something you have to prepare for mentally and physically. Nobody ever expects to be a victim. But if you prepare you can save your life.

Some might think what I have described is over the top. But that is fine. My family will not go down without a fight
