Feminism was BAD for two-thirds of women, say Fay Weldon

I have always had a healthy respect for Fay Weldon, she refuses to be anything other than her own woman even now.

Author Fay Weldon has risked infuriating fellow feminists by claiming their cause left two-thirds of British women worse off. In an interview in The Mail on Sunday’s Event magazine today, Weldon, 85, says the feminist revolution had adverse implications by ‘halving the male wage, so it no longer supported a family.’ That meant some women had to get jobs, even if they would rather have been at home with their children. ‘Women had to work to support the family. So for two in three women, it really was a problem.’

Elsewhere in the interview, Weldon also launches an astonishing attack on the ‘bad’ women who have accused Donald Trump of sexual harassment. She argues that the US President’s ‘foolish’ and ‘neurotic’ accusers are trying to make a fast buck out of the situation.

Weldon is never afraid to express an unpopular or controversial opinion: ‘I think Trump hatred is a very foolish move. It seems to me to be a sort of neurotic fear of something new.’

everyone knows you dont let women actually make decisions. has anyone ever had a relatoinship work if they actually let women make important decisions? no way. Women need to be told what to do or else they flounder
 
She also has some pretty trenchant views on Trump and the women who attempt to cash in!! I think she is right, they willingly let him near them but soon smelt money when he was running for President. She is also 100% right to say that there are as many bad women as men, that's just human nature.

Not buying the premise that feminists caused wages to stagnate. Mere assertion, opinion, and conjecture.
While wage stagnation is a complex issue, it seems more self-evident to me that globalization, union busting, and neoliberal trade policies would have more to do with it than a group of women who expect to be treated equally and fairly at work.

Also not buying that feminism has been a net negative for women. The enfranchisement of women's right to vote, establishment of sexual harassment laws and policies, and implementation of anti-discrimination laws were all preeminent social achievements of the 20 century. Both men and women benefit from that legacy. That's just a fact, jack.

It is perfectly obvious to me that you haven't a clue who Fay Weldon is, so for your information she was a feminist when you were still sucking on your mother's tits!! Nearly every married couple with children has to have both parents working just to maintain a reasonable standard of living. I would suggest that many women with young children would rather be at home.

Obviously the economy produces more if there's a larger labor pool, so it's fallacious to say that the only difference is that two parents are working, and otherwise men would be making twice the salary and getting twice the effective amount of produce from an economy with only half the labor pool.

The point is, which you completely missed, is that Fay Weldon asserts that many families could live on one income in the past. Now both parents have to work to maintain a reasonable lifestyle. My wife has worked pretty much all our married life, she is now in business with a guy that does bespoke tailoring. His suits start at around £2,000 a pop. She makes wedding dresses, evening wear etc. and does bloody well.

If the woman wants to go out and the man stay at the home, if that suits them, then all well and good. So stop being such a twat, Fay Weldon is many times more intelligent than you and has impeccable feminist credentials. Holy shit, I would love to see you changing nappies that would be comedy gold!!

i think its putting the cart before the horse. Her argument is that women need to work 2 jobs now because them working 2 jobs caused inflation becuase of all the extra money you could now charge households, when they worked that second job because they needed to because of prices in the first place
