Rejecting Campus Illiberalism

If Milo was an intellectual you might have a point, but, people like him do not want to exchange ideas or enlighten, the Milo's of the world only have their self promotion at heart.
So who are you to judge? Germaine Greer was no platformed over here, do you support that?

You're talking apples and oranges here. Universities are not the same as political rallies.

Frankly, I'm surprised that you still cling to Milo, an avowed racist and pedophile. What the hell is wrong with you? Milo has essentially been barred from EVERYWHERE now.

The university was right and the students and protesters were right to protest and kick his slimy ass off campus. You and Trump are left defending scum.

What are college campuses for .. the intellectual, social, and political growth of their students, not just the ABC's of academics. Such is real education for a population of Americans often experiencing their first steps as adults.

The idiocy and incivility of the right is on glaring display in this country as we speak .. but somehow you seem to believe that students on college campuses should be barred from acting on their beliefs .. specifically because you don't like their beliefs.

Your post would make more sense if you suggested that campuses should be barred from any political action .. which would still make no sense at all.

Sometimes your posts are bizarre and make no sense .. this is one of those times.

I'm 44 years old and never been in a fight. I don't fight and I don't get into screaming matches with people. So no, I don't support anyone who does.

Ben Shipiro graduated from Harvard Law School and was prevented from speaking. Charles Murray has a PhD from M.I.T. and not only wasn't allowed to speak a female professor was physically attacked. Is that acceptable on a college campus? Should I have rioted in '92 when I saw Sista Soulja speak at 'SC after Bill Clinton accused her of hate speech?

What you do with your life has absolutely no bearing on what other people should do with theirs.

What you believe has absolutely no bearing on what others should believe.

How is it that you don't know that?

Who the fuck are you to judge? Which part of freedom of speech do you not understand?

The part where I don't get to disagree with Wacko? Or the part where Milo doesn't get to yell 'fire' in a crowded theater.

Ben Shapiro graduated from Harvard Law. Charles Murray has a PhD from M.I.T. and both were attacked. Are those not sufficient academic credentials?
I don't have problems with people protesting ideas. Violence is never acceptable. I have protested speakers, it is my right to protest their ideas. They have a right to speak, but I have a right to object to content of their messages. If my protest is large enough to stop their message, is not that democracy at work?

BAC, you are acting as if this whole discussion is based on Milo. Is assaulting the professor at Middlebury College acceptable? This issue goes far beyond the past two months.

So I shouldn't have answered Cypress' question then?

So threatening them, physically stopping them from speaking, physically turning off equipment so they can't speak is all ok?

No, that is mob rule.

Rana, you've called yourself a pacifist before on here. But using pysical violence to stop people from speaking is ok?

Wait, are you seriously asking me if punching someone without cause is an okay thing to do?

But if you are so dead set against violence, I wonder if you have ever started a thread about lefties being assaulted by fan boys of the Orange Clown?

I spent over 8 years in universities, not including my part time teaching gigs, and at those schools I never, ever recall a single example of conservatives being punched out because they loved the Iraq War, loved torturing prisoners, or loved kicking poor people off Medicaid. Not one single incident. Its just not something that happens with enough frequency to register on my radar. I am not sure if you realize this wacky dude, but Fox News and the greater wingnutsophere are playing you. Playing you by having you accept their phony premise of white, conservative male victimhood.
Cornell West is white conservative victim hood now? Is he now a sell out?

Even mentioning Milo was your first mistake.

Assuming that college campuses should be free of the nation's politics was your second mistake. College students aren't children.

Irrespective of your pristine life, free from conflict .. that isn't how the world works. Americans have a long history of protests and standing up for their beliefs .. often in the face of a violent right-wing. SEE: Kent State, Jackson State

College students on campus are no different brother .. in fact, it's often where dissent and action form.

Violence doesn't happen in a bubble. Most often it's a reaction to violence.

Singling out 'liberalism' was a huge mistake .. especially coming from a conservative such as yourself.

Do you have trouble reading? I believe in non-physical non-violent protests, attacking speakers is using violence

it does. College campus is the poster child for screaming ignorant fascism from the left, with the occasional twist of violence thrown in.
It's disgusting. Liberals today are the intolerant, politically correct, shout-down crowd, the right used to be

My life ain't been pristine dude. I've had many, many opportunities to be in fights where i talked my way out of it or stopped others from fighting. If that makes me a pussy then so be it. Fair enough.

I specifically answered cypress the Ruston whether I accept violence in the public sphere. My answer is no and I gave that example. Again, if I'm a pussy as a result I'll accept it.
