With all due respect, I think it ridiculous because it does not consider the best health interests of the American people, nor the general welfare of this nation.
Beyond the article I quoted, there was no consideration of nationalized healthcare in the Constitution .. as there was no consideration of a plethora of modern issues in the Constitution.
Like Thomas Jefferson, I don't believe generations of Americans should be held to the standards and beliefs of the long dead. Like Jefferson, I believe the Constitution should be re-written with every generation to reflect the thoughts of the living.

If we are going to use Thomas Jefferson's words, one of my personal favorite presidents, as a prop for justifying universal healthcare then I would use his own words to counter that when he said that to compel a man to furnish funds for the propagation of ideas he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical. Universal healthcare compels citizens to furnish funds for such a thing. Jefferson was for very limited government and he and Madison were so adamant about states rights and the 10th amendment that they wrote it into other states constitutions.
I also dont believe that "general welfare" includes things like healthcare, welfare, social security, and other programs not listed as a federal power in the constitution. General welfare to me means what generally contributes to our welfare, or basically our well being, so to me that means our inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness along with protection of our rights.

Respectfully, Jefferson had no concept of nationalized healthcare .. and his statement about compelling one to pay for what he doesn't believe obviously came with limits. Are you compelled to pay taxes? Can you not pay them if you don't want to?
Obamacare has been determined to be constitutional, and a healthier America is in the best interests of the whole.
Your argument can't be simply doing what is constitutional.
Jefferson and Madison were liberals, and I have no doubt that both would clearly see the problems with states rights in a modern world.

I just find it hard to believe that one so young spouts so much contemptible waffle about the Constitution and healthcare. It would seem to me that you ought to be far more interested that all US citizens have access to affordable healthcare. I don't really see why the US couldn't adopt some variation of the French model, what does your precious Constitution have to say about that?
