I'm neither. I've read about Bannon and his world view. Bannon saying he is a nationalist is very different than others. I'm not saying anything earth shattering here, this isn't new

A nationalist is someone who wants the United States to exist and be a united country. A fascist is someone who thinks Americans are inherently superior to all others, that some Americans (I.e. Non-whites and non-fascists) who don't past a purity test don't really count as Americans, and that America has an inherent right to plunder the world, regardless of the concept of justice.

The fascists aren't even truly nationalist because they support states rights ideology rather than national union.

He spoke at CPAC about economic nationalism. The biggest component of that is protectionism (anti free trade) and anti immigration.

I heard them say economic nationalism is not only free trade but FAIR trade....and
Immigration means asking and receiving permission to come to this country, as its supposed to be done in just about EVERY country, not just strolling across the border....

The so called president is calling himself a nationalist.. He just loves him some America, well as long as he has that bad deferment foot he can't recall which one was bad, or pay taxes, or use the highest office in the land for personal gain, etc etc etc.
Those damn deferments will be his downfall....though it didn't bother Joe Biden none...its odd that deferments is dirty word when Republicans get them but totally ok for Democrats...
I wonder how much he's made, as a result of being president, in his first 6 weeks in office....tax free of course.....

Fair trade is a term that has been used historically by the left. It's used by the Bernie Sanders types. Rana has used it on this board when discussing trade in the past. We hear about "fair trade coffee" from leftists. So now to see a right-wing populist co-opt it is interesting.
On immigration he is skeptical of legal immigration and is interested in reducing those numbers.
when the left uses fair trade they mean it to want the coffee pickers in the countries they deal with to be paid higher wages. When nationalists use it we mean it to wanting those jobs back here.

The nation is a fiction that was invented in the 19th century. It is not the permanent and endless basis of all human interaction.
