Up until election day it might have seemed like the Democrats had some game.
Most respected public opinion polling agencies gave Trump slim odds of beating HRC.
President Bush (younger) [R-"TX"] earned the reputation as the president of disaster:
- Bush lied U.S. into War in Iraq
- Bush didn't make a lot of friends on 09/11/01
- Bush didn't make many friends w/ hurricane Rita
- or Katrina
- or with the sub-prime mortgage meld-down.
It was so bad, a Democrat beat an honorably discharged U.S. military veteran in time of war.
U.S. military veterans tend to have an advantage in U.S. presidential elections, and an enhanced advantage in time of War.
BUT !!
Obama beat 'em, TWICE !!
- Republicans seem to have a substantial gubernatorial majority.
- Republicans control both houses of congress.
- Republicans control the executive branch.
- Republicans may solidify a Republican hold on SCOTUS if Majority Leader McConnell confirms Trump's appointment.

Fine.
That's the current score.
BUT !!
Which party has the more cohesive, the more popular ideology?
For all his manifold virtues, Trump isn't a conservative ideologue.
Trump says what he wants.
Trump does what he wants.
McConnell and Ryan seem willing to tag along, as long as Trump's agenda matches their own.
But can we really assert that the GOP has a cohesive, coherent political ideology?
By the same token, even if we presume there's some ideological continuity within the Democrat party, can we say the Democrats have a winning formula? If so, why are the Republicans pummeling them so badly?
