Jenna Bush Hager uses dad's post-9/11 words over Trump order

Bush Hager posted an excerpt on Twitter Tuesday from a 2001 speech her father, a fellow Republican, gave at the Islamic Center of Washington, D.C. following the 9/11 attacks. Her father said, "Islam is peace" in his remarks. He added that Muslims "make an incredibly valuable contribution to our country" and called for them to be "treated with respect."

Bush Hager said in her tweet that the speech is a reminder "to teach acceptance and love to our kids for all races, all religions."

I haven't such much about this because I don't think much is really known due to Trump massively bungling this thing. But the more that comes out and the more I learn, I don't think this was a good move. It has not won the hearts and minds of many people. Sure, some Muslims support it, but by and large it has hurt America's image and hurt Trump. Right or wrong may the opposition be, but he screwed this up and as I said previously, this would not have stopped a single attack in the past 15 or so years.

Why not just increase the vetting now instead of having an outright ban? Plus, this hurt a lot of green card holders, students etc.

I really don't think this was a smart move. DUMB!

Among those affected by President Trump’s travel ban is a badly burned Iraqi boy who has been separated from his family, CBS Boston reported.

The family was staying at an Iraqi refugee camp last summer when a heater exploded, severely burning the son, Dilbreen. Dilbreen and his father were able to travel to the U.S. for medical care, but the father returned to Iraq to be with his wife as she gave birth.

Their second son was born November 8 — Election Day in the United States — and the report by CBS Boston said the boy was named “Trump.”

Dilbreen will soon have surgery again, and his family was supposed to travel to the U.S. to stay at the House of Peace in Ipswich, near Boston, a facility providing “a temporary home for child victims of war and their families while they receive medical treatment.” But after the executive order was signed Friday, the family’s visas were revoked.

Great way to fight terrorism!

As the "State Media" described Obama's 6 month ban, it's a "pause", not a ban, until proper vetting can be put in place.

The Leftwing narrative is that WE are alienating Muslims. This is a total leftwinger propaganda lie. It is the Muslims that have been doing their best to alienate the West, NOT the other way around.

The only reason Islam needs to kill you, is if you don't submit to it. Submit or die.

That's interesting; when I criticized how he handled it, you said Trump could "cure cancer" and I'd still find fault w/ him.

The cooperation & intel we have gathered from Muslim countries, allies & communities over the years have prevented more attacks than most people are even aware of. Contrast that to the fact that this ban wouldn't have prevented even one attack, and it's pretty clear which strategy protects us better.

But Trump went with the ban. We're likely less safe today than we were a week ago, unfortunately.

The 1.5 billion peaceful Muslims need to defeat the 1,000 jihadist "bad" Muslims, if Islam wants to stop alienating the West.

Why is it their responsibility?

They shouldn't be accountable for the actions of extremists, any more than you or I should.

So who should do something about the tiny, tiny, handful of violent Muslims????

Everyone? No one? People who are tasked with it?

I don't expect a Muslim with a job & family to give up his life to go fight extremists. There have been extremists and terrorists of other religions throughout the years, including Christianity. I didn't expect Christians to rise up against the KKK, for example.

1.5 billion peaceful Muslims and you can't find one willing to fight the 1,000 "bad" Muslims. Ridiculous.

Christians, led by REVEREND Dr. MLK, rose up against the socialist democrat KKK. Their numbers have been reduced from their DEMOCRAT hey day of 4 million, to a fringe group of 5,000 white society rejects, mostly criminal.

That's a false comparison. African American Christians rose up to fight for their own rights, and against their own oppressors.

White Christians supported MLK and voted to support him when they passed the Civil Rights Act. If you think the Black pop., alone, was enough to pass that bill, you are crazy.

"Voted to support?" That's not rising up or putting themselves on the front lines.

Countless Muslims around the world, as well as their leadership, have condemned attacks and expressed support for eliminating terrorism.

So you admit that the vast majority of Muslims are peaceful, right?

Good for you.

So why should we punish the many for the actions of a few?

Why not apply the same logic to them, that you apply to gun ownership... that the many shouldn't be punished for the actions of a few?

Of course whites marched too. Some were killed for doing so. The Civil Rights movement was a Christian movement led by a Christian Reverend.
