To read the online commentary, one would think that President Trump just fundamentally corrupted the American character. You would think that the executive order on refugees he signed yesterday betrayed America’s Founding ideals. You might even think he banned people from an entire faith from American shores.

So, what did Trump do? Did he implement his promised Muslim ban? No, far from it.

First, the order temporarily halts refugee admissions for 120 days to improve the vetting process, then caps refugee admissions at 50,000 per year. Outrageous, right? Not so fast. Before 2016, when Obama dramatically ramped up refugee admissions, Trump’s 50,000 stands roughly in-between a typical year of refugee admissions in George W. Bush’s two terms and a typical year in Obama’s two terms.

What about translators and people known loyal to our government?
The ban, however, contains an important exception: “Secretaries of State and Homeland Security may, on a case-by-case basis, and when in the national interest, issue visas or other immigration benefits to nationals of countries for which visas and benefits are otherwise blocked.” In other words, the secretaries can make exceptions — a provision that would, one hopes, fully allow interpreters and other proven allies to enter the U.S. during the 90-day period.

What about Permanent Residents?
However, there are reports that the ban is being applied even to green-card holders. This is madness. The plain language of the order doesn’t apply to legal permanent residents of the U.S., and green-card holders have been through round after round of vetting and security checks. The administration should intervene, immediately, to stop misapplication. If, however, the Trump administration continues to apply the order to legal permanent residents, it should indeed be condemned.

the ban doesn't apply to green card holders. any stories about this happening are either bullshit, or the order is being misapplied. Everything is pretty much standard and within the realms of what every other president has done.

If it is a mistake that green card holders are being turned away, it's still Trump's fault. He shouldn't have written such a vague and confusing executive order. He has a responsibility as a leader to only make sure he publishes good law, his priority instead is just to sign about of garbage that his aides shit out in a couple of days without any advice from legal experts or the affected departments.

I am not defending him. And if you opened your fucking down syndrome eyes you would have seen in another thread I don't really support the ban and certainly wouldn't support it for permeant residents. I am just pointing out that A) as usual, the sky is not falling, and B) all other presidents have done similar things like this.

As I said, you need to take a vacation, you are borderline obsessed.

thing1, and most liberals in general, are very bad at nuance. They are cultists, used to virtue signaling, and anything that falls outside of that realm they fail to comprehend. They don't understand how someone could support trump on supreme court nominations, do some trolling, but not be in the tank. I've noticed many liberals have simply become unhinged after Trump's win. Read an opinion piece the other day how the democrats are in massive denial about why Trump won. They keep saying their key phrases, like racists, old white men, etc, without doing any introspection as to why they really lost and how out of touch they are with reality.

This from the guy who almost banned me, because he read a thread where I said it was noteworthy that 2 polls showed Hillary under double-digits in TX, and read it as me saying "OMG! Hillary is going to win TX!"

You were saying that trump was doing bad in texas when he was actually more than 87% to win the state. It was a moronic statement.
