Mother sues to stop Bible classes in West Virginia schools

The government teaches religion in the schools, THEIR religion.

That's why the country's students are ignorant of real american and western civilization history.

Religion should be taught in public school as a chapter in history or the societal impact of mental illness.

Communism has nothing to do with it, dullard. The Establishment Clause does.

Why is it that the fringe RW are so poorly informed on Constitutional issues? Home school? Too much Bible, not enough real world.

Particularly the three prong test of lemon v kurtzman

You need to defend your religion as true and verifiable, then I'll be happy to allow you to introduce the evidence to my children. Unfortunately for you, intelligent design lacks the attributes of science. Here is a life plan for you, seek truth, stop hating it just because it shines ugly light on your claimed heritage.

I know that your communism is bad for everybody's health. And no religion was taught in the public schools of this country. Bibles and prayers were the reflection of the communities where these schools were located. But when the instruction began, the basics were taught in elementary schools. Nobody complained because everybody was getting educated.

Students weren't being force fed a steady diet of social engineering and Marxism and the evils of western civilization and capitalism. They were actually learning the basic knowledge needed to be efficient citizens.

It is impossible to understand and appreciate western literature without a basic knowledge of the Bible in the meantime.

gotta do it somewhere.
since the kids go to school -it seems like that would be a good place for them to also go to elective bible class. *duh*
But the left is so hostile to religion -even an elective in the same building is heresy to their secular hatred of religion.

Religion doesn't belong in public school.

As long as its an elective then I lean towards it being ok. I would love for everybody to choose to take bible class to learn about Christ and his sacrifice but I understand that not everybody is a Christian and not everybody cares. As a voluntary elective it leaves the freedom of choice for the student in my opinion without the school forcing a religion on students. If it makes parents feel better they could add a world religion elective as an alternative as well. This is just my opinion though.

Why not just do it in the church? Why the push to do this in the schools?

It's not uncommon for a school in a rural community to have a more homogenous study body especially when it comes to religion and so just over time an elective like that might form and stick around for a long time before you have a situation like this one. I grew up in a small rural town and it was pretty much just assumed that everybody there is a Christian, maybe a variety of denominations but Christian. Im not saying that that's a good thing or a bad thing though it was just my experience. We have clubs in our high school that centered on Christ and different denominations and we had an elective about world religions that was taught by one of the history teachers. 99.9% of the student population was Christian in my school but the clubs all had less than a dozen students in them and not everybody chose religion as an elective so most students despite being Christian didn't engage in those clubs or classes and didn't feel ostracized by not enrolling or joining. It just gave the kids options for electives and clubs that allowed them to get together to discuss the Bible, but it was all voluntary. I understand why you think theres no need for that sort of thing but just as you dont think it should be there, there are students that do, and the fair thing is to provide it but make it voluntary in my personal opinion.

That doesn't answer my question. Why do it in the schools? Especially in a rural area.
