Evangelical Liberal Churches

Anyone here attend one? I think that's the best definition of my new church in SF. Pastor is a 30 year millenial with a tattoo sleeve on one arm.

Jimmy Carter may be one of the more famous evangelical liberals in the country which is neither here nor there he just came to mind. Just curious if any others attend a similar church

There are liberals among evangelical congregations for sure. Funny you mention tattoos ...

We have lots of people in our congregation with tattoos but I don't have any. We are very fundamental ... far from liberal. Had one guy come in with both arms tattooed and he was self conscious about it. I assured him he didn't have to wear a long sleeve shirt and that his leather vest was ok to wear. I had to convince him that nobody cared what he wore. He came regularly for a while and I started a bible study with him, baptized him after a few months. Baptized his future wife later then performed their wedding for them. They moved to Georgia to help take care of her folks. I still keep in contact. It's funny the stigma attached to tattoos.

I didn't mean to imply it in a negative way more so that for me I've never seen a Pastor with tattoos. Based on his Facebook page, Tweets and comments he's made during sermon it's pretty clear he's a liberal but at the end of the day that's neither here nor there. He's an excellent Pastor.

Lol...you should see the looks a couple of preacher friends of mine (both of whom have tats) and I get. Once a month in warm weather we ride our bikes to some nearby town and get something to eat. It's very funny when people find out these leather clad older fellows (I'm the youngest) are all preachers.

it is not what is on the outside that makes unclean. It is what is on the inside. people who call themselves "liberal christians" are those that are as whited sepulchres. in their heart/ soul is rebellion toward The Lord Jesus Christ. they disagree with the testimonies and judgements of The Lord [ and teach others to do so ]and replace it with outward shows of morality, publicly proclaimed "good works" and "progressive" ideaology. a "liberal Christian"" is basically an apostate which has departed from faith in The Lord Jesus Christ and goes after other gods/[devils]. the most prominent examples are those who mingle false eastern mysticism religions and those who proclaim "allah" Lucifer to be the same as or equal to The true and living God whose name is Jesus. IMO. it is good. everything is right on schedule.

No. I attend the Unarius Academy and represent saturn in the federation of planetary love. I joined because it is more scientific than traditional western superstitious belief systems.

Define evangelical and liberal in relation to religion. I'm United Methodist. It's a pretty mainstream denomination but compared to Southern Baptist we're pretty radical and Southern Baptist compared to Mennonites are subversive communist.

I would argue that in protestant denominations that those who focus on Weslyian philosophies of social activism and good works would be considered liberal compared to denominations who's beliefs center around predestination and the Bible as literal truth.

I'd have to argue that Tats are pretty irrelevant and hardly signify liberal or conservative beliefs.

Are liberal churches those that forgo their religious tax exemption? ... in order to better support and increase the size of the State gov't?

I have attended a lot of liberal churches, how are you defining evangelical?

Yep.

Tats used to be an indicator of military service or Harley ownership. Now, they are more common, than not.

They used to be prohibited in the Officers Corp, if you had a tat, you were an enlisted man.
