I like the appointment *.

BUT !!

In this rare case, senate approval is not enough.

There's a law which prevents such short duration to elapse between military service, and such civilian service.

So a waiver or other compensation would be required for Mattis to actually take the post.

Any word on the status of that?

- Trump's promised elimination of ISIL
- U.S. military procurement (see the Sig thread for additional info)
- Trump's desired expansion of our nuclear arsenal
- Trump's promised increase in our military population

That's the problem with these Republicans.

Trump is the most acrobatic flip-flopper I've ever seen in U.S. politics.

Trump can't POSSIBLY be wrong on so many of these issues, because he's taken BOTH SIDES of so many of them.

Specifically on the nuclear:

Wasn't it Governor Perry (R-TX) that in Republican primary debate declared that he wanted to entirely shut down a whole government agency, but then forget the name of the agency he wanted shut down?

And then Trump picks him to head that agency.

And then Perry actually learns what that agency does, and explains that his previous position was firmly grounded in profound ignorance, and now that he actually knows what this agency does, he doesn't want to shut it down after all?

So Perry is ignorant.

Are we really supposed to think Trump is any less ignorant? Trump knows more about putting an end to ISIL than our top U.S. military commanders?!

We'll see about the two theater war capability.

We'll need the details. But if Trump increases spending as much as he says; including renewing our severely decayed infrastructure, and jazzing up our military as he advocates, along with cutting taxes as he also indicates; our deficits and debt are headed for Jupiter.

wtf. so how does that work. Some of the senate like warren vote against giving Mattis the waiver then vote to confirm him?

im happy he is confirmed btw but I dont know why they voted that way.

Pretty amazing that after all the leftwingers peeing and shittin' themselves over the Mattis pick, the senate dems overwhelmingly loved Trump's choice for the Sec of DeF.
