Trump says he will nominate someone to the Supreme Court within two weeks.


What do you think?

Will the nominee be from the list Trump produced during the campaign or not?
Will he be a Conservative or not?
Will he have a public position on Abortion and gay marriage?

It would be very interesting to see that happen, the vast majority of Americans support R v. W. If they see this happen the reaction will be serious.

that can easily change.....before Roe the vast majority of Americans thought killing their children was a bad thing......given an education and time to think they may come back to their senses quite easily.....

That is what Trump said, but back then he was propose a "Massive deportation force" and a ban on "All Muslim immigration".

Will you be upset if the nominee is not from the list?

Seriously I'd like to have someone replacing Scalia that understood/agreed/decided on the basis of textualism.
That was an important milestone in judicial philosophy that replaces "original intent"

we dont have much evidence that he deviate from the list or would have a specific motive to do so, other than possibly as leverage against house republicans that aren't on board with him. He might want to hang that over the houses head for a bit. On the otherhand, he might want to strike while the iron is hot.

I dont think we should be asking judges to state their beliefs on x or y. We should judge them on whether or not they want to make up laws like liberals do, or be a strict constructionist.

I am pro choice but if you have to always worry for 40 years about a legal decision fucking up your life, perhaps you should have been working to actually pass legislation for your own ends. If it's as popular as everyone claims it to be, it'd be a lot easier to get iron clad laws and protections in place rather than relying on spurious judicial reasoning. So why worry? This is why liberal paranoia over roe v wade is pure chicken little bullshit.

Then so is the Republican claim they are going to get rid of it, but Republicans keep raising money on it. Maybe, this will finally put an end to all the bullshit.

I don't care about the list per se but I expect a Scalia clone. Only reason I voted for Trump. If he screws that up I will not support him in 2020

I am hoping for Ted Cruz. It would serve a number of purposes.

1) he is a brilliant Constitutionalist and is in lock step with me on the written word of the Constitution

2) it would be a good signal to conservatives that supported him on this basis

3) it would be a big fuck you to the left and would make YOUR head explode

Personally I don't think the dems will put up that bit of a fight over this nominee as it is merely replacing Scalia. I believe they will hold their powder for when Ginsberg croaks and it can truly shift the court.
