Trump's war with the Republicans...

Trump has to have a battle to be Trump, he has to be fighting someone.

The Democrats have a minority in the Senate and the House... so who is Trump going to fight...

I think its going to be the Republicans, and I will enjoy that. He says "Insurance for everyone" which is certainly not a Republican plan. Now we have word that he is rejecting there tax plan also. This is good news for those who reject the Republican party line. The Democrats might lose less than expected these two legislative years before the midterms.

I've got my popcorn!

I am really looking forward to it, I got no dog in the fight... kinda hope both sides win. Its like when Alabama plays a non SEC game. I can cheer for everything that happens.

As much as the left hates Trump the man has clearly never been an ideologue. This is not something new. He's a deal maker. He likes to negotiate and do deals. And his negotiation style starts with taking (sometimes) outlandish positions and then negotiating from there. Again, this isn't new. He wrote about this in 1987.

So yes, Republicans in Congress will fight him on some things as they should.

At least it will be entertaining. I cant say he has done much wrong yet other than behavior and his picks for positions in his administration. (I guess that is all he has done so far.)

Ive heard that too many times to even read the article.
the fact you've heard it,and it's repeated thru many incarnations here, and in politics elesewhere tells you all you need to know.
Which is nothing.

But politics aside...Trump can actually now pursue an agenda, instead of just Tweet it. Then start watching the polls

It will be interesting how things change after Friday, will Trumps behavior change, I seriously doubt it, I don't think he is capable. Will the expectation of the people change, maybe, I cant tell, the people may already be inoculated to expect bad behavior from him so.. who knows.

I did read the article, I like the comparison to Johnson, but as bad a president as Johnson he did get us the Civil Rights legislation of the late 60's, so even a bad president can do something good. I give Kennedy and his death the credit, I don't thing Johnson had a choice, and I wonder if it is even something Johnson wanted, but he had to do it, and he did it and it was a great accomplishment in my opinion. So... I hold out hope for something good from the Trump administration. Don't forget however Johnson is responsible for the bulk of Vietnam, so bad comes with good.

LBJ was a Warpig of grotesque proportions -same as Nixon. May they rot in hell.
I'm no going to say anything good about them; they both had personal reasons for keeping Vietnam going long after it was obvious it wasn't anything more then a meatgrinder. Everything else pales next to that.

Good for you for putting the best interests of the USA above petty partisan politics.

There will be plenty of time and real reasons to go after Trump -delegitimization for the butt hurt Clinton campaign ( Brian Fallon)
or grudges by Lewis and the rest of the shitheads isn't one of them. Ya. great ex. there of putting America First ( not)

I give credit to the advent and power of television. It made the general public aware of how serious the racial abuses were.

Some Democrats are falling into the trap most Republicans fell into in 2006. I call it a trap, but it worked for them so maybe its a good idea. The Republicans won both midterms by demonizing, de-legitimatizing and obstructing Obama for absolutely everything he tried to do.

Television was a huge factor. Racial tensions in the 1960's were the worse they had ever been since the Civil War, but lots of good came out of the movement. I credit people like MLK and Representative Lewis for using television as a force for illustrating the problems and standing firm with the establishment accused them of inflaming racial tensions.

No way am I going to defend Republican Obstructionism -but I really don't want to hear about it when the aggrieved party (Dems)
trots out the same stuff.
It worked with Obama because he passed the ACA-using up most of his political capital-and then really refused to play even small ball wit the Repubs ( the "pen and a phone " thing coming into his 2nd term).

And to be clear -no way am I defending "birthers" ( including Trump's role) or the rest of that crap-but when the SAME BUNCH of assholes in Congress etc. use the SAME TACTICS ( or worse) -what does that say about the Dems too?

I agree, we will see what happens. I expect more out of the Democrats than we got from the Republicans.

I will say, comparing Trump to Obama is off the charts. The Democrats would be more justified obstructing him than the Republicans were obstructing Obama. Obama won, twice with a mandate from the majority of voters without outside help. Obama also behaved in a dignified and honorable way. Obama had a majority support from the people much of his presidency and never had much less than half of the people having favorable opinions of him.

Much the same was said about Harry S. I don't follow your logic to the bolded -but OK.
