Trump team ponders evicting media from White House

Three senior officials on Donald Trump's transition team hinted that a plan to evict the press corps from the White House is under "serious consideration" by the president-elect’s incoming administration, Esquire magazine reported.

If the plan is adopted, one official told Esquire, the media will be removed from the White House press room, where it has been located since Richard Nixon was president. They would be relocated either to the White House Conference Center or to a space in the Old Executive Office building, located next door to the White House.

Sean Spicer, Trump's press secretary, said no decision has been made about such a plan, but acknowledged that "there has been some discussion about how to do it."
Reporters have had some sort of workspace at the White House since Theodore Roosevelt's time, but it became more pronounced during the Nixon era. The room contains work stations and broadcast booths, as well as a briefing area.

Spicer told Esquire that the move was purely one of logistics, noting that the press room may be too small to handle a growing national media. However, Esquire quoted another senior official saying the move was a reaction to coverage that Trump believes has been hostile toward him.

"They are the opposition party," the official told Esquire. "I want 'em out of the building. We are taking back the press room."

absolutely, positively correct thing to do. the mainstream/ "cable" fake news networks have proven that they are the greatest source of domestic enemy fake news. they are criminal and should be expelled from every resident's home as well. not to mention that they all need a good bludgeoning. I hate all of barack's army signal corps fake news terrorists.

That will go over like a fart in a space suit lol.

No question the media is adversarial though. They went from being positively supine under Obama to transparently adversarial with Trump. They're supposed to be somewhere in the Middle.

Rightwingers despise the media when it holds Republicans accountable, but as soon as it reports anything negative about Democrats, the way it flooded the news daily with the steady drum beat of stories about Hillary's emails while ignoring and suppressing stories the FBI investigation into Trump, the wingnuts dive in head first, quoting the media's every word and punctuation mark.

That is because the right is made up of despicable, low intellect, COMMIE loving slobs.

Good point. Extend that to any news outlet colluding with any political party.

That would be the end of all Irish's news sources. I don't think he would like that.

I also think they follow the money. CNN hired Trump people, I would hardly call that colluding with the DNC

Depends.....if that reporting is based upon FAKE NEWS or not. There is nothing wrong with reporting TRUTH as it happens and the research is made to verify it as fact. But that's not the state of modern yellow jouralism today. They do not report the news...they inject themselves in the middle of of it and BECOME THE STORY. For one reason...ratings. The more sensational the story the better the ratings...if its not sensational enough to pull their share of the ratings....they inject their spin.

The one thing in the Constitution that needs amending is the protection provided to the 4th estate which assumes all of the entities to be honest in their reporting. If any news source is caught red handed dealing in sensational news..ie., FAKE NEWS....they should be subject to liable just is every other citizen of the United States, as free speech exists as a right until you get to the threshold of causing harm or threatening someones liberty or life with FAKE GOSSIP.

I am sure the vast number of red states more than 3/4 of the nation that voted for Trump would readily agree at this point in time to a slight amendment of the US CONSTITUTION that holds everyone to include the 4th estate to certain and min. levels of credibility. Just a thought...but something is going to have to be done to stop this obvious ass kissing and ring kissing by those who are supposedly neutral. Did anyone watch the news coverage of Soetoro's farewell speech? That should be enough to prove to anyone with a brain just what is happening in this nation. They were all but bending over and licking his boots.

And spreading fake news as truth. Such as reporting that not one scandal occurred with this administration. Please...give us break, the fast and the furious, Beer Gate......shoving Obama Care lies down our throats...etc., there are at least over 250 documented records of outright blatant lies from this administration.

I can hardly wait to see and hear the incessant gnashing of teeth and wailing from the Democrats. It will be a refreshing break from what they've been doing lately....

Said no living, breathing, thinking person EVER!

I love that there are actually Americans who are anti-media.

For all their bias, there is a reason for the 4th estate. It is a vital part of our democracy and keeping our government in check. That conservatives celebrate something like this w/ glee really speaks volumes.

That you would think they can't report without being in that one specific room shouts even louder.

“Also interesting is, remember, it’s illegal to possess these stolen documents. It’s different for the media. So everything you learn about this, you’re learning from us.”

Ah, isn’t it lovely to be so special, so specially immune from the law? Except it’s not at all different for the media. The First Amendment offers the same protection to the media as to the rest of us, including when it comes to possessing or distributing illegally obtained material (so long as you weren’t involved in the original illegal hack or interception or leak). Indeed, in the 2001 Bartnicki v. Vopper decision, the Supreme Court rejected even civil liability for distributing illegally intercepted cellphone calls, and expressly refused to distinguish the media from others:

The . . . question is whether the application of these statutes [that purport to ban distributing illegally obtained material, even when one wasn’t involved in the distribution,] in such circumstances violates the First Amendment. [Footnote: In answering this question, we draw no distinction between the media respondents and Yocum.]

And the Bartnicki Court cited New York Times Co. v. Sullivan, 376 U.S. 254, 265-266 (1964) — the case treated the media and non-media speakers equally, and a passage on those pages stressed the rights of “persons who do not themselves have access to publishing facilities” — and First Nat. Bank of Boston v. Bellotti, 435 U.S. 765, 777 (1978), which is a passage that stresses the rights of all speakers to speak.

Now, while knowingly possessing tangible stolen property would often be a crime for both the media and others, possessing copies of illegally leaked materials is generally not treated the same way. See Pearson v. Dodd, 410 F.2d 701 (D.C. Cir. 1969). But in any event, remember that, whatever First Amendment rules may apply, the media has no more First Amendment rights than the rest of us.

fuck the media, bunch of cheating, lying, bastards trying to sway an election........and not russia.

I love this; because it says it all. :D
