Meryl Streep at Golden Globes

Really? Then how did Trump get elected? He is a reality TV star with no personal knowledge of politics, except for the politician he bought and bragged about doing so. His status is the only reason he has a platform.

Did you think Reagan was a farce as well?

You talking about the former President of SAG, who went on to become Governor of California, before becoming POTUS?

Which is a broader economic category than many people realize. It includes everything from janitors to licensed heavy equipment operators, chemical operators, coal miners, truck drivers, welders, heating and cooling workers and owners and etc. Some of these people can approach six figures if they get enough O/T.
Some also have college degrees.

Yes, really. Trump ran for President. Reagan ran for President. Trump ran big businesses. Reagan was Governor. They actually did something. Meryl Streep is an actress. A good one. And that is it. Same with most all other famous actors. Good at one thing, not good at others or that is what they would be doing. And, more importantly, be able to take with experience about it, not just opinions.
Just because one is just an actor does not disqualify them from having an informed opinion.

Did I say anywhere in the quote you copied that she doesn't have first amendment rights? Do you think this is the first time someone in Hollywood has gotten political in an award speech?

And no fear, they don't hire people with right leaning political beliefs in Hollywood so you're safe from having to hear any of them speaking out during a show

So true. And if they do, and find out that they do lean right, they'll never hire them again. When is the last time you heard a right leaning actor/actress <--- (I know, politically incorrect, right...) state an opinion on an award show. Responses to this post are predictable.

How informed can it really be? My problem is not a persons political beliefs. That is the nice thing about America, you can still have them. My problem is folks using their "star" or other platforms to project their political beliefs upon others. Believe what you want too, vote for who you want too. Other than that, do not try and push it on others.

That is just ridiculous, go ask Mel.

It's a generalization, but most of those types don't know more about politics and policy than the average person. And it takes very little knowledge of politics or policy to go on an emotional rant.

They have a right to voice their opinions but there's typically very little value in them. It just happens they are rich entertainers.

Exactly. Hence the topic of this thread. Hollywood actors have no personal knowledge of politics or running things. Better to take your award for the good work earned and deserve and keep your own personal politics out of it. No one really gives a F$&#$ what an actor has to say politically. They have no personal experience to base it on. Unfortunately due to their social status they do have a platform to comment though.

trump has no personal knowledge of politics yet now we're stuck with him. Stuck with a guy who's so thin-skinned he thinks it's more important to tweet about his critics than to learn about the business of running the country.

I say give the man a chance. This country will never know if a business man is indeed a good thing for the country unless we try. He is elected. Lets all get behind the President and see what happens. If it does not work out, there is always another election.

I agree. But it's a tall order. The democrats lost to the biggest jackass who ever ran for president. It's gotta be tough to swallow. They lost to worst guy ever. And Trump is woefully unprepared as Obama described him. Spot on description.

I had the GG / Streep address on DVR.
Her intro was horribly too long.
And I couldn't sit through Steep's own address. I got as far as holding the press accountable, and here I am whining about it.

I'm not disagreeing with her.

BUT !!

She's preaching to the choir, a "papered house". That seems like a rather vain & applause-hungry exercise.

Maybe that's what such award ceremonies are for, & I'm just old-fashioned. But I didn't care for it, even if she is a talented actress with laryngitis.

But why is what she says CNN newsworthy? Sure she's preaching to the choir in the GG's but leave it there and with the unfortunate souls who watch that kind of thing.

You're party just got slammed by a political neophyte in the general election [the epitome of domestic politics], and you criticize him for not knowing politics?

Really lol?

lol, You must hate all politicians because they all try to use their power in just that way.

That's how I feel about trump, except I'm not too sure what he's really good at besides self-aggrandizement. His casinos failed, his steaks failed, his travel website failed, his airline failed, his vodka failed, his mortgage company failed, etc. etc.

He is not running the country yet. Soon. In his type of business you have to at least deal with many politicians. Otherwise things do not get built. I do agree though, the man has to lose his tweeting license....
