The Federal Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Volkswagen AG (VOWG_p.DE) executive on charges of conspiracy to defraud the United States, the New York Times reported on Monday.
Oliver Schmidt, who headed the company's regulatory compliance office in the U.S. from 2014 to March 2015, was arrested on Saturday by federal investigators in Florida, the newspaper said, citing people familiar with the matter.*
VW admitted in September 2015 to installing secret software known as "defeat devices" in 475,000 U.S. 2.0-liter diesel cars to cheat exhaust emissions tests and make them appear cleaner in testing. In reality, the vehicles emitted up to 40 times the legally allowable pollution levels.
Volkswagen declined to comment on the reported arrest.
"Volkswagen continues to cooperate with the Department of Justice as we work to resolve remaining matters in the United States. It would not be appropriate to comment on any ongoing investigations or to discuss personnel matters," it said.
The FBI was not immediately available for comment.
Schmidt is expected to be brought before court in Detroit on Monday, the NYT said.
Senior VW officials are not attending this year's Detroit auto show, which is taking place this week.
The news comes as Volkswagen was nearing a deal to resolve criminal and civil allegations over its diesel cheating, crucial steps toward moving past the scandal, which has cost it billions of dollars and its reputation.
Volkswagen shares were up 2 percent at 141.75 euros by 0816 GMT (3.16 a.m. ET), at the top of a 0.2 percent-weaker German blue-chip DAX (.GDAXI), on the expected deal.

Tis the difference between the left and the right....the left thinks of the POTUS as a king who controls everything in his/her domain...the right knows and comprehends the fact that the president of the United States is a servant of the people and does not control and use the justice department as a personal hit team aimed at political foes.

Of course Mr. Trump would not have arrested anyone....if anyone needed arrested after due process had run its course...the justice department would decide just who needs indicted. Damn left wing fascists. :)

Does the potus have the authority to allow.....anything in this constitutional republic? His duty is to simply enforce law...not make it or pick and choose which laws he dictates should be enforced or allowed with a wink and nod as has been the practice over the past 8 years.
 
This is just pure bullshit, it was governments and the Green movement that enabled diesel cars to gain such prominence. Volkswagen are just a scapegoat for loonies like Desh in the US, especially in California, and Europe.

The Greens of course have said very little about it because they know that it was they that campaigned for diesel in the first place due to "global warming". This is a truly salutory lesson to be learnt here but I doubt that it will be though.

This is much of the problem with liberalism and politics. They are more concerned with punishing someone with the fake Global Warming BS than they are in protecting the people of the United States. The border is like having a screen door on a submarine....drugs, arms, terrorists are flooding across...and accepted by liberals as potential left wing voters. They make gun laws that take the only source of self defense away from many whom the Government can't protect....like Chicago..etc., they have in effect punished the law abiding and made lambs being lead to slaughter.

They attempt to destroy the Constitution every time it refuses to allow them to engage in socialism in the manner they wish. They promote violence in the streets as a political process.....they allow government agencies to target and attack groups based upon political affiliation.....

I simply look at the act of stupidity...and consider the source.

This is much like totally ignoring Washington tv and the main stream media over the next few weeks....as you will have wall to wall democrat bloviation on the left wing propaganda news channels...when in reality...they can't make a difference. Mr. Trump will have every one of his picks appointed...because the left was in such a hurry during Obamy's administration they done away with the requirement for super majority conformation, all it takes is a simple 50+1 and its a done deal.

So.....I will watch something much more important during my free time over the next 3 weeks.....CARTOONS. And come away more enlightened than listening to the pompous ass bloviating coming from the left over the next few weeks....that accomplishes NOTHING.
